Nearly 1000 in attendance at Legit Speedway Saturday night for the MARS Competition.

Nearly 1000 fans bet against the weather Saturday and made the trip to Legit Speedway for an excellent night of Dirt Track Racing. The MARS circuit came to town and brought some of the biggest names in dirt track history to the show.  Terry Phillips, Billy Moyer, Wendall Wallace, Justin Asplin and a field of 23 MARS competitors put on a 40 lap caution free show. Billy Moyer had his machine running to perfection as he turned in a 14.3 second lap on his way to winning the pole position  in the qualifier and led the feature from start to finish. Terry Phillips, who sits atop the MARS all time win list finished in 5th place. Wendall Wallace finished in 4th, Jesse Stovall in 3rd and Tim Manville in 2nd.  The MARS drivers put on a great show for the fans.

“It was a great track. Good smooth surface” said Billy Moyer in the victory lane interview. “They have done an excellent job bringing the track back and it was a great experience.”

In the Hobby Stock Division,  it was Kevin Collins of West Plains coming away with his fourth win of the season. Collins has his car dialed in and loves the dry-slick conditions of the last month, having won 3 of the last 4 events.  Darren Fox of Mtn. Grove finished 2nd and  Chuck Russell of West Plains in 3rd.  With a 5th place finish, Corey Lambert stays atop the points board for the season.

A field of twenty one drivers competed In the USRA B Mod division, and it was Toby Thompson of Mtn. Grove back on Victory Lane for the third time this season.  Thompson jumped out front off the start and never looked back in 20 laps of caution free B Mod racing.  Justin Rigel of Thayer finished 2nd and Jason Brigman of West Plains finished 3rd.

In the Super Stock Division fans got to see some great side-by-side action throughout the race as #13 Curt Cotter, #13P Chris Piper, #26 Donnie Miller and number L18 Landon Clinton scrapped for 20 laps. In the end it was #13 Curt Cotter taking the checkered flag followed by Chris Piper and Donnie Miller.  That 3rd place finish keep Miller atop the points race for the season. When asked about the win, Curt’s dad was quick to point out that this was three generations of Cotter’s on the track and that he was very proud of them. 

In the IMCA Modified division it was the 18 year old from Mammoth Spring making his first appearance in Victory Lane. Brandon Walsh was excited to be in the winners circle after a race filled with a lot of entertainment. Walsh finished .15 seconds ahead of Rustin Miller of Houston and .4 seconds ahead of season points leader Daryl Hay. Congratulations to the Brandon Walsh from Mammoth Spring on his first win!

Racing action will resume this weekend in the weekly points race sponsored by West Plains Propane and Don’s Auto Service. The gates will open as always at 5 p.m.. Hot laps at 6:30. Races at 7.
