Bunyard battles his way to victory at Whynot
McCree, Shelby pick up first wins.

Artis Bunyard of Toomsuba picked up his second win of the season in the Street Stock division Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.
Bunyard lead every lap until Jeffery Walker of Whynot raced from his seventh starting position and took the lead coming by the flag stand on the final lap. Bunyard worked his way back along side Walker down the back stretch and the two remained side by side all the way to the checkerd flag with Bunyard winning by the nose of his car.
Klye Mars looked to be the fastest car on the track running the high groove, but had to settle for third behind second place finisher Walker.
"J-Mac" Justin McCree of Cuba, AL finally got the Whynot monkey off his back picking up his first win at "the Action Track of the South" in the NeSmith Chevrolet weekly racing series Late Model division.
Pole sitter Jim McDuffie lead the first 17 laps until McCree took the lead when McDuffie jumped the cushion in turn two on a restart following a caution. McCree raced unchallenged to the checkerd flag.
"When I crossed the finish line all I could think was man It's feels great to finally get a win here" McCree said. "I've won races at other tracks, but the weekly competition here is some of the best in the country".. McCree became the ninth different winner in the Late Model division this year.
"The Butler Bandit" Chris Jimerson of Butler, AL finished second and Ben McCreary of Columbus finished third.
Jason Brock dominated the Open Wheel Modified feature, Chip Jones won the Pure Stock feature and Christian Shelby won his first career feature race in the Stinger class.

Boyd ends long drought at Whynot, Wing wins modified special

On hot summer night at Whynot Motorsports Park the racing action continued to be hotter as Randy Boyd of Marion picked up his first win of the season in the NeSmith Chevrolet weekly racing series Late Model Division ending a winless streak that dates back to 2001.
Boyd set fast time of the night with a 13.863 and held of a late race challenge by second place finisher Jim McDuffie of Meridian. Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba worked his way from sixth to finish third.
"I've been looking forward to this win for a long time" said Boyd. "I just want to thank all my fans, crew, my car owner Chad Valentine and our new sponsor Meridian Coca Cola".
"The Bossman" Rodney Wing of Whynot took to the track this weekend winning the C&B Contracting 35 lap $3000 to win Modified feature event. Wing started second and took the lead at the green flag and never looked back.
"The track was real racey tonight" Wing said. "In traffic I cound run the top or the bottom. We had a lot of fun tonight."
Jared Landers of Benton, AR finished second, Gregg Hollingsworth of Lake finished third, Ryan Allday of Jackson raced through the field from 12th to fourth and Ben Stephens raced his way from 14th to fifth.
Chris Smith of Brewton, AL won the dash and took the Ethridge Race Parts fast time award over 32 Modifieds. with a 14.529 and Justin Ross took the Hard Charger award racing through the field from 22nd to seventh.
In other action, Clavin Cook of Milton, FL won the Street Stock feature over Artis Bunyard and Wayne Medders. Mitch Jenkins won the Stinger feature, and Casey Campbell won the Pure Stock feature.
Whynot returns to action with a weekly racing series event this Saturday night. Coming up July 4th will be the Kajun Mini Stocks and the bigger and better 2nd Annual Independence

"Intimigator" Wins Whynot MSCCS

The "Intimigator" Chris Wall of Holden, LA won his third MSCCS feature race of the 2009 season in a thrilling night of racing Satuday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.
Wall started the night off setting quick time among 26 Super Late Models with a blistering 13.151 lap around the "Action Track" of the south.
Chad Thrash of Collinsville made numerous attempts pulling along side Wall for the lead throughout the 50 Lap feature but had to settle for second. "Iron" Mike Boland of Cuba, AL made the show through one of two B mains and charged through the field for a third place finish. Defending MSCCS champion David Ashely of Zachary,LA finished fourth. And "Flying" Brian Rickman of Columbus finished fifth.
Wall won the Super Late Model dash while Jason Cliburn of Star and Jeremy Broadus of Biloxi won the B mains.
The NeSmith Chevrolet weekly racing series Crate Late Models ran two 20 lap features. The first of the night was a make up race from a rain out 3 weeks ago. Lucky Keeton passed Jim McDuffie with two laps remaining to claim the first feature. McDuffie finished second with Randy Boyd third.
Jim McDuffie won the second feature taking the lead from a wild race with Randy Boyd with eight laps remaining. Lucky Keeton finished second with Randy Boyd third.
Feature winners in other divisions were Chris Smith - Open Wheel Modified, "Mr Whynot" Kyle Rutledge - Street Stock, Mini Stock - Justin Anderson, Brandon Leftwich - Stinger, Terry Arnsdorff - Pure Stock.
Race note: Keith House flipped in turn one during a Super Late Model B main and was not injured. Randy Boyd Thompson was injured in a three car crash during the MSCCS feature and taken to a local hospital for a left arm injury and possible concussion. And Tody Ratcliff was also injured and taken to a local hospital for a foot injury during a multi-car pilup on the backstretch in the second Crate Late Model feature. We want to wish Randy and Tody a speedy recovery and hope to see them racing again soon.
Whynot will take this weekend off to allow our local racers the opportunity to compete in the Govenors Cup race in Columbus June 6th and be back in action June 13th with a regular race, plus the Cajun Sprinters. For more info go to www.whynotmotorsportspark.com

Brock wins night #1 of C&B Contracting "60" at Whynot

Brian Brock of Sulligent, AL held off Jared Landers of Arkansas in a thrilling 25 lap Open Wheel Modified feature race Friday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.
Jason Brock of Sulligent, AL dominated the first 16 laps until a caution bunched the field.
On the restart, Brian Brock started working the high groove and began battling his brother Jason for the lead with Landers hot on their heels. Jason lost the lead to his brother with six laps remaining bringing out a caution for spinning out in turn one.
As the race resumed it was Brock and Landers trading paint for the remaining six laps as the two raced side by side through turns three and four on the final lap. Brock got a great run off the high groove and just beat Landers to the finish line.
"I didn't know Landers was behind us until that last restart and he started putting pressure on me" Brock said. "I'm just glad to get my first win here".
Jason Brock won the Etheridge race parts fast time award among 34 Modifieds with a 14.735
Hunter Rasdon picked up the Etheridge Race Parts hard charger award racing from 21st to 11th.
B main winners were Dougie Murphy and Noah Daspit.
Other feature winnners were, Kyle Rutledge Street Stock, Casey Campbell Pure Stock, and Chris Woodham in the Stinger.

Coleman holds off Taylor for first career win at Whynot

On an exciting evening of racing with threatening rains on the horizon "the infield idiot" Phillip Coleman of Whynot won his first career feature in the Stinger division Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.
Coleman held off Andy Taylor who charged through the field to challenge for the lead with two laps remaining.
Kevin Reeves won his first race of the season on a last lap pass on Artis Bunyard and held off Kyle Rutledge at the finish line to win an exciting Street Stock feature.
Johnny "popcorn" Mercer took home the Pure Stock feature after Chip Jones failed tech inspection for being too light at the scales.
Johnny Pearson was victorious in the Mini Stock feature over Justin Anderson and Casey Haney.
The rain began to fall on lap eight of the Open Wheel Modified feature as track officials were force to cancel the rest of the event to allow fans to head for the exits upon the arrival of a severe thunderstorm giving the win to Randy King.
The NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series feature event will be moved to next weekend during the big Open Wheel Modified show. The Late Models will run two 25 lap feature races this Saturday.
Race fans get ready as the "action track "of the south will host the 2nd Annual C&B Contracting Open Wheel Modified Spectacular. Thursday night will be practice from 6-10pm. Friday night will be $2000 to win for the Open Wheel Modifieds, plus heat and feature races in the Street Stock, Pure Stock and Stinger. Saturday night will be $3000 to win for the Open Wheel Modifieds, plus heat and feature races in the Mini Stock and double feature races for the Late Models. Boland Wins Night #2 of the NeSmith Series At Whynot
Mike Boland of Cuba, AL picked up the win on Saturday night in the Coca-Cola Classic 50 for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series at Whynot in The Strength Center Trak-Star. Boland passed Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL on lap 44, and then held off Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS for the victory.
Boland Chased down McRee in heavy lapped traffic, stayed planted on the bottom groove, and took the lead when McRee jumped the cushion. A restart with four laps to go saw Boland move to the middle groove, and Cooley got a run on the outside to challenge Boland for the lead on lap 48. Boland was not to be denied holding off Cooley for the win.
“Justin was all over the place in lapped traffic, and I stayed in my groove, and waited for it to open up and took the lead,” Boland said. “On that last restart, I knew Eric was coming on the outside, but I tried to stay in the middle where there was some moisture left.”
The defending NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA finished third. And local racer Larry Murphy of Meridian finished a strong fourth.
Fast Qualifiers were Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs GA on Friday night at 13.815 and Meridians Larry Murphy on Saturday night with a 14.133 over a stellar field of 51 total Late Models for the weekend.
Other feature winners were Kyle Rutledge in the Street Stock, Gregg Hollingsworth in the Open Wheel Modified.

McCool Wins Night #1 of the NeSmith Series At Whynot
MERIDIAN, MS –On an exciting weekend of racing at the "Action Track of the South" Bub McCool of Vicksburg, MS started the Usry Architects Trak-Star 14th and charged through the field to take the lead from Ben McCreary of Baldwyn, MS on lap 32 to win the Dasani Water 40 for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour on Friday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.
“The car just got better as the race went on,” McCool said. “I tried to pass McCreary on the bottom, but he saw me coming and shut the door, but on the next lap I went to the outside and made the pass.”
Two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National champion David Gentry of Lewisburg, TN made a late-race charge to finish second in the Eads Farms Warrior. Larry Boutwell of Baker, FL took the third spot in the McLeod Construction Rocket. Gentry leads Boutwell by 24 points in the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National point standings.

Allday dominates Modified feature at Whynot
Ryan Allday ends Randy Kings undefeated streak

Ryan Allday of Jackson dominated the Open Wheel Modified feature Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports park sending Randing King to defeat for the first time this season ending his four race winning streak.
"Our Car was good tonight" Allday said. "We came over this week to get some laps before the big Modified race next month".
King finished second with Tim Rutledge third.
In other action "Iron" Mike Boland of Cuba Alabama picked up his first win of the season at the "action track of the south" in the NeSmith Chevrolet weekly racing series Late Model feature. Wiley Williams of Stonewall finished second with Jim McDuffie of Meridian third.
McDuffie set fast time over 25 Late Models with a 14.087
"Mr. Whynot" Kyle Rutledge won the Street Stock feature over Jeff Butler and Artis Bunyard.
Bill Bunyard won the Mini Stock over Chris Jarrell and Johnny Pearson.
Chris Woodham won the Stinger and Johnny Mercer took the Pure Stock.
Get ready race fans this Friday and Saturday night will be The NeSmith Chevrolet National Late Model tour with the Dasani 40 $2000 to win Friday night. Plus heat and feature races in the Mini Stock, Pure Stock and Stingers. The Late Models will return Saturday night for the Coca Cola 50 $2500 to win. Skinner dominates Outlaw Sprint Car feature

Marshall Skinner of West Memphis, AR cruised to the Outlaw Sprint Car feature Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.
Skinner took the lead from Gulfport's Todd Fayard at the start and raced unchallenged to the checkerd flag.
"We ran here one time before in 98 and finished third" Skinner said. "We really like this place and glad we got our first win here".
Track owner Rodney Wing took to the track for the first time in a Sprint Car and had a good run going until he jumped the cushion in turn 3 sending him into the wall.
Shane Morgan of Biloxi finished second with Todd Fayard third.
In other action Kyle Rutledge of Whynot won the Street Stock feature with Artis Bunyard of Toomsuba second and Eric Mazingo of Gilbertown, AL third.
Randy King of Meridian continues his dominance winning his third straight Open Wheel Modified feature Tim Rutledge and TJ Herndon.
James Christian picked up his first career win in the Stinger feature.Casey Haney won the Mini Stock feature.
Casey Campbell won the first pure stock feature over Josh Carpenter. This is a new class that is replacing the two man cruisers.
Whynot will be back in action this Saturday night with another exciting night of racing. Coming up May 1st & 2nd will be the NeSmith Chevrolet National Late Model tour.

Mazingo cruises to Street Stock win
15 year old gets first career win.

Eric Mazingo of Gilbertown, AL won his first career feature race in the Street Stock division Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.
Mazingo and 3 time track champion Kyle Rutledge of Whynot raced raced side by side the first two laps until Mazingo grabbed the lead on lap 3 and cruised unchallenged to the finish.
Mazingo, only 15 years of age, was speechless when asked how it felt to get his first career win.
Artis Bunyard of Toomsuba came home second with Kyle Rutledge third.
In other action, Lucky Keeton returned to his winning ways taking the lead from Wiley Williams on the final lap of the Weekly NeSmith Chevrolet Late Model series feature.
"We've had a good weekend" Keeton said. "We also won Friday night in Hattiesburg".
Randy Boyd of Marion finished second with Wiley Williams of Stonewall third.
Randy King won the Modified feature. Kyle Rutledge finished second and Tim Rutledge third.
Jennifer Shelton won her second feature race of the season in the Mini Stock. Bill Bunyard was second with Mike Rominger third.
Robi Dearing won the Stinger and Terry Arnsdorff and Tracy Young won the two man Cruisers.
The Go Karts at Whynot were rained out last week and are rescheduled for this weekend April 11th. On April 18th the cars return to action with no Late Models. They will be replaced with Winged Outlaw Sprint cars. Regular Saturday night gate prices to see the Sprints. $10 Adults - $5 ages 6-12 with under 6 free. $25 for the pits. So don't miss it! Cliburn holds off Ashley for Whynot MSCCS Win

(Meridian) Jason Cliburn of Star, MS won the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series Super Late Model 50 lap main event Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.
Cliburn started fourth and by lap five took the lead from pole sitter and fast qualifier David Ashley of Zachary, LA. picking up his first win of the season.
Cliburn also picked up his first win at the Action Track of the South. " We've run good at this track over the years" Cliburn said. " It feels good to finally get a win here".
Ashley made him earn the win as he pressured Cliburn throughout the race. On lap 40 he passed Cliburn back for the lead only to have a caution come out giving the lead back to Cliburn.
Ashley would finish second with Jay Blair of Angie, LA charging from 16th in the field to finish second. Local racer Steve Bryan of Collinsville had a strong fourth place finish. And Chris McElhenny of Decatur fifth.
Earlier in the night, the top eight cars from Super Late Model qualifying raced an eight lap dash to determine their feature starting order. David Ashley won a thrilling finish over Justin McRee by just inches at the finish line.
In other local action Artis Bunyard used lap traffic to perfection to edge Kyle Rutledge by about two feet at the finish line winning the Street Stock feature. Jeff Butler finished third.
Other feature winners include Randy King - Modified, Tony Coffman - Mini Stock, Robi Dearing - Stinger, and Casey Campbell and Michael Harris - two man Cruiser.

Murphy claims season opener at Whynot

(Meridian, MS) Larry Murphy of Meridian won the 2009 season opener for the NeSmith Chevrolet weekly racing series Late Model division Saturday night at Whynot Motorsports Park.
Murphy, the defending 2008 track champion finished on top of the point standings last season without a feature win now finds himself not only in the points lead for the 2009 chase, but now has a feature win under his belt.
The only driver that could challenge Murphy throughout the feature event was Wiley Williams of Stonewall. The two drivers battled side by side with eight laps to go coming into lap traffic, the two made contact causing Williams to spin bringing out a caution sending him to the rear of the field.
Jamie Smith of Purvis started sixth in the field and finished second. Cliff Williams of Star Started eighth and finished third.
Jim McDuffie set fast time with a 13.727
In other action Tim Rutledge won the Open Wheel Modified feature from his eighth starting position taking the lead after the first three laps. Randy King of Meridian finished second with Kyle Rutledge third.
The 2008 track champion "Mr. Whynot" Kyle Rutledge picked up where he left off last season passing Meridians David James for the lead with three laps to go winning the Street Stock feature. James finished second with Artis Bunyard third.
Jennifer Shelton of Toomsuba lead the entire feature winning the Mini Stock feature. Tony Coffman of Florence finished second with Bill Bunyard of Toomsuba third.
Robi Dearing of Meridian won the Stinger feature with Tim Dees of Meridian second and Shane Bounds of Lumberton third.
Casey Campbell and Michael Harris of Quitman won the two man Cruisers feature.

Arnold Claims Thriller at First Annual Winter Bash

17 year old Michael Arnold of Hattiesburg, MS won the Franklin Enterprise 1st Annual Winter Bash Crate Late Model 30 lap feature race at Whynot Motorsports Park Saturday.
Pole sitter Roger Rolison looked to be the man to beat in the early going jumping out to a commanding lead.
Arnold started fourth on the grid and worked his way to second by lap 12 and began to pressure Rolison for the lead until lap 16 as Steve Bryan battled side by side with Arnold for second.
The caution came out for race leader Rolison with mechanical problems on lap 20 setting up a 10 lap shootout between Arnold and Bryan.
On the restart Jamey Smith of Purvis started working the high groove and caught up with Arnold and Bryan with two laps to go.
Arnold held on for the win as Smith edged out Bryan for second. The two were side by side right on Arnolds back door at the finish line ending a thrilling day of racing at the "Action Track of the South".
"This is only my second time to race here" Arnold said. "It feels great to get a win here".
Rolison set fast time for day with a 13.797 around the 3/8 mile oval.
In other action "The Bossman" Rodney Wing started fourth and grabbed the lead on lap one and never looked back winning the 25 lap C&B contracting Open Wheel Modified feature race. Sixth starting Dennis Duncan finished second with 10th starting Jody Davidson finishing third.
The Street Stock feature saw "Mr Whynot" Kyle Rutledge come from fifth to claim the Street stock feature. Jody Walters finished second while Artis Bunyard came from 10th to third.
Jennifer Shelton of Toomsuba dominated the mini stock feature over second place finisher Tony Coffman and third place finisher Marty Long.
Lawrence Kirkley won the Stinger feature and Casey Campbell and Michael Harris won the Cruisers.
