Keeton wins round one of I-20 showdown

Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, driving the Boland Performance/ Jeff Burns Racing Engines/ Sweet Manufacturing INC/ Trak Star Race Car, dominated round one of the I-20 Crate Late Model showdown at Whynot Motorsports Park Saturday night.
Keeton and Jim McDuffie of Meridian driving the H.E. Mosley Inc./ Boland Performance/ Trak Star, earned the front row starting positions winning their qualifying heat races.
Keeton took the lead from the start of the 30 lap feature and cruised to his first win of the season at "the action track of the south". "I just want to thank my sponsors and my family for all their support this year" Keeton said. "We've struggled a lot this season. I raced another car early on and I sold it a few weeks ago. Now I'm back in my Trak Star and it was fast tonight".
"J-Mac" Justin McRee of Cuba, AL, driving the Henderson Motorsports/ Century Dedicated/ Franklin Enterprise/ Trak Star, set fast time with a 13.692 and had problems in his heat race forcing him to start in the rear of the feature. McRee raced his way to a solid fifth place finish. Randy Boyd was second, Chris McElhenney third and Jim McDuffie fourth.
Tough break for Butler. Alabama's Phillip Stanely during the Late Model feature as he was caught up in a six car pile up on lap 10 landing upside down on the backstretch. Stanely was not injured.
Gregg Hollingsworth won his fourth Open Wheel Modified feature of the season driving the 100 Service center/ Hodge Sawdust/ Modified, Tim Rutledge finished second, Randy King third, Kyle Rutledge fourth and Toby Hodge fifth.
Artis Bunyard of Toomsuba, driving the York Drugs/ Shon's Painting/ Kewanee One Stop/ STR race cars/ Pontiac Firebird, held off challenges from David James and "Mr. Whynot" Kyle Rutledge winning another thrilling Street Stock feature. Rutledge finished second, Jeffery Walker raced his way from ninth to third, David James fourth and Jonathan Moore came from 12th to fifth.
Tony Coffman picked up his second Mini Stock feature win of the season. J. C. Pearson was second, Tyler Evans third, Alton Evans fourth and David Franklin fifth.
Tommy Nichols won his third Pure Stock feature race this year with Hike Hudler second, Tim Dees third, Todd hill fourth and Tyler Roberts fifth.
Andy Taylor won his first race of the season in the Stinger feature. Brandon Leftwich was second, Caleb Langford third, Mitch Jenkins fourth and Christian Shelby fifth.
The race cars will take this weekend off as the Go Karts will be racing this weekend at Whynot. Coming up Memorial Day weekend will be the first ever appearance of the P.R.O.
