Rutledge, James split Street Stock features

"Mr Whynot" Kyle Rutledge and David James of Meridian, split two thrilling heavy metal Street Stock feature races at Whynot Motorsports Park Saturday night.
 
Rutledge and James battled it out side by side till the midway point during feature race number one, as Rutledge would take the lead and cruise to the winners circle. James had to hold off a hard charging Artis Bunyard of Toomsuba for second, as Bunyard had to settle for third.
 
 David James led the entire second feature of the evening making up a rain out race back on August 29th. But not without heavy pressure from Kyle Rutledge and Artis Bunyard. Bunyard would beat Rutledge to the finish claiming second with Rutledge settling for third.     
"The top side of the track just wasn't quite as fast in the first feature" James said. "the second feature I started outside front row and could never get to the bottom with Kyle and Artis battling down there, but the top side got faster and it paid off".
 
In the NeSmith Chevrolet weekly racing series Late Model division, Lucky Keeton won an action packed race taking the lead at the midway point from Larry Murphy of Meridian and then had to hold off Murphy and Jim McDuffie of Meridian at the finish line. Keeton won the race and his engine was protested by another racer making the finish unofficial until later this week. Murphy held on for second with McDuffie third, Randy Boyd fourth and Tody Ratcliff fifth.
 
Keeton also took fast time of the evening during qualifying with a 13.986
 
Tim Rutledge won the modified feature with Randy King second and Rusty Harrison third.
 
Johnny Pearson won the Mini Stock feature with J.C Pearson second and Eric Long third.
 
Chip Jones won the Pure Stock feature and in Just her second time in a race car 12 year old Cara Woodham won her first feature race in the Stinger division.
 
The Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series Super Late Models return to Whynot this Saturday night for their final race of the season. Also racing Open Wheel Modified, Street Stock, Mini Stock, Pure Stock and Stingers. So for a night of racing, fireworks and fun.
