| Northwest Florida Speedway – Blackman, FL June 12 Thrash Victorious in first night of MSCCS Florida Panhandle Double Header by Bob Smith – PanhandleRacing.com A great car count and an exciting closing laps pass for the win all worked together to make the first ever visit by the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) to Northwest Florida Speedway a tremendous success! David Ashley brought the field of Late Models to the green for the first B-Main event of the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series with Neil Baggett on the outside front row. As the green flag waved it was Neil Baggett into the lead with Ashley second. Ashley looked inside through three and Four, running door-to-door down the back straight with Baggett emerging in the lead. Lap two saw Jason Phillips pull to second as Baggett filed in at third. Keith Miller runs fourth with Skeeter Redmon fifth. Caution flew on lap two when Kevin Maher spun in two, shuffling Phillips back into third as the MSCCS does not race back to caution. Back under green Ashley continued to lead the way as Baggett continued holding second with Phillips in third. Ashley held onto the lead to the checkered flag with Baggett taking second and Phillips third. Miller placed fourth with Redmon fifth. Joseph Joiner led the second B-Main to the green flag with Jeremy Broadus on his outside. With green in the air it was Joiner rocketing out into the lead with Broadus taking up second as Frank Wilson filed in at third. Caution flew on lap one when Charles Gaines tagged a tire low on the turn two and went around and the field line up for a complete restart. Again Joiner led the way to the green, taking up the point with Broadus second. With one lap complete, Broadus went around in turn two, ushering in caution once again. Joiner led to the start again, alone out front in the lead while Marlon Wild and Josh Huss made up the second row. Joiner again flew to the lead while Wild took up second and Huss third until Broadus went around again in turn one. Joiner again led the way with 48 and Huss on the second row. Once again Joiner streaked into the lead with Broadus second and Frank Wilson up into third until Wilson nearly tagged the front straight wall out of four and came to a stop as caution waved once again. Joiner took to the lead once more as Broadus filed in at second with Huss third. Caution waved when Craig Turan came to a stop in turn two, Joiner still holds the lead. Joiner piloted his rocket back out in the lead as Broadus once again took up in second with Huss still running third. Joiner led to the checkers by a straight length lead with Broadus second and Huss in third. The top eight qualifiers ran the dash to set the front four rows. Shep Lucas led the way to the green for the six lap shootout. Lucas took the lead with Scott Slay in second and Scott Creel third until a tangle in turn two brought out the caution. Lucas was sent back one row for jumping the start. Creel brought the dash field back to the start with Slay on the outside. Creel took to the lead but Lucas battled inside to take the lead into turn one. Caution flew when Creel spun on the back straight. Lucas took the checkered flag out front with Steve Bryan second and Slay in third. Shep Lucas led the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series Late Models to the green flag with Steven Bryan on the outside of the front row. Twenty-Two Late Models took the green for the 40-lap A-Main. Lucas led the first lap as Bryan took up in second with Scott Slay third. Caution flew on lap one when Scott Creel checked up in turn two as Steven Brantley slowed ahead of him. Scott Creel got into Neil Baggett with Baggett spinning to the infield. Lucas led at caution with Bryan second and Slay third. Lucas brought the field to the restart, but about six cars tangled in turn for and caution flew. Again Lucas led the way to the green with Bryan second and Slay at third. This attempt ended in yellow as Baggett and Ashley made contact on the front straight with Ashley suffering a cut tire. In turn two several more cars tangled and turned around. Lucas remains at the point for the next, single file, attempt for a start. Back under green Slay charges forward, overtaking Lucas for the lead on the outside through turns one and two. Lucas runs in second with a bumper full of Bryan. Caution waved again when Jason Phillips tangled with another car in four. Slay leads at the restart with Lucas second and Bryan third. Chad Thrash runs in fourth with Brantley rounds out the lead five. Caution flew again when Joseph Joiner dove to the inside into three, turning a car around. Slay led the way at green immediately checking out on Lucas while Thrash put the pressure on Bryan for third. Caution slowed the pace again when Skeeter Redmon spun on the back straight. Slay continues to hold the point for the restart with Lucas second and Bryan in third. Slay suffered mechanical problems along the front straight, abruptly stopping and bringing out the yellow as Lucas regained the lead at lap seventeen. Bryan runs second with Thrash at third. Thrash quickly overtakes Bryan for second as the green flag action resumed while Lucas runs several car lengths out ahead. Clear of Bryan, Thrash set his sights set on the point. Digging hard, lap after lap Thrash looked inside of Lucas for the chance to take the lead. Bryan continued to run in third with Brantley fourth and Keith Miller fifth. The final caution waved at lap thirty-three when Phillips turned it around in turn two. On the restart, Lucas led Thrash with Bryan third, Brantley fourth and Miller in fifth. Lucas again pulls out in the lead as the race resumed green while Thrash continues to keep the pressure turned up. With two laps remaining Thrash rockets inside Lucas down the front straight and into turn one to take the lead! Thrash remained solid out front without a challenge for the final circuit to claim the victory in the first visit by the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series at Northwest Florida Speedway!
