North Central Arkansas Speedway, 8-1-14

The first night of August held much cooler then normal temperatures setting the stage for the second running of the Pure Stock Racing Association this season at North Central Arkansas Speedway.

The Super Stock feature event rolled off turn four to the starting green flag with Jared Hayes and Jessie Shearin holding down the front row. Hayes was able to power through turns one and two and take the lead going down the back stretch with Shearin pursuing close behind. Curt Cotter started outside the second row and managed to get past Mark Shockley before the end of the first lap following the top two cars around the track. A pair of cautions slowed the field in the first half of the twenty lap race, but after the green flag came out after the lap nine caution period the event ran cleanly through the end. Hayes made it back-to-back appearances in victory lane, Shearin finished second with Cotter taking third.

The Pure Stock Racing Association made its second and final appearance of the 2014 season to the banks of Crooked Creek and after a pair of intense heat races James Alexander qualified for the pole position and Matt Rush occupied the outside pole. The outside line proved to be the place to be at the start with Rush moving quickly out in front of the field and Doug Jones following Rush up high and into the second spot. Chad Horton started inside the second row and moved into the top three past Adams by the end of the opening circuit. The top three cars raced nose-to-tail through lap seven until the caution lights came on for a single car spin that bunched the field for a restart. A three-car accident brought out the yellow flag before another lap could be logged, again bunching the field for a restart. After three laps of green flag action a multi-car pileup in turns one and two briefly brought out the red flag and as the racing resumed Horton battled Jones for the second spot. Horton moved into the second spot behind Rush on lap fifteen and after pressuring the leader for a pair of laps moved into the lead on lap eighteen. Horton was able to hold on to take the feature win and the $1000 winners check.  Rush and Jones followed Horton across the finish line in second and third.

Logan Martin and Chad Staus led the field the start of the USRA B-Modified feature race. After racing door-to-door with Martin through the opening lap, Staus spun exiting turn four bringing out the only caution of the race. Martin was pressured by Steve Muilenburg on the restart, but Martin was able to hold off the challenge for the lead and began to open a small advantage on the second place car. Lapped traffic helped Muilenburg close on the leader Martin near the halfway mark of the event, with Jason Brigman also using the slower cars to close the gap on the leaders. Martin was able to use a lapped car to break the momentum of Muilenburg and pull away from the second and third place contenders extending his advantage to take the win. Muilenburg crossed the line running second with Brigman claiming third.
