Neil Baggett Claims First PRO Dirt Car Win At Greenville Speedway

Greenville, Mississippi (08/14/10) – The 2010 season to date has been a frustrating time for Neil Baggett from Shannon, Mississippi, who struggled early in the year before parting ways with his car owner. However, the past month saw Baggett make a return to the track, and in just his third night in his new #21 Victory Circle Chassis he powered his way to the $3,000 PRO Dirt Car Series feature win at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, MS) on Saturday night.

With the biggest purse of the year on the line for the PRO Dirt Car Series, twenty-nine Super Late Models from five states entered the Topless 50 at Greenville Speedway on Saturday night. Via Southern Belle Qualifying it was local favorite, Ross Camponovo, who blazed to the fastest time of the night in his #18 Rocket to earn the pole position for the 50 lap event. He was to be joined on the front row by Eddie Rickman, who set the fastest time in his group. However, Rickman was in a team car to Dean Carpenter, and after Carpenter had to scratch from the program with mechanical woes, Rickman relinquished his car and starting spot so that Carpenter could use a provisional to start the main event. With Rickman scratching from the feature, Rick Rickman moved up to the outside front row starting spot.

On the initial green Camponovo would jump to the lead over Chad Washington and Rick Rickman, but before a lap could be completed the caution would wave for Henry Cooper, who spun in turn three. As a result, the field lined up for a double file restart, and on the next attempt to get the race underway Rickman would jump to the early lead with Camponovo, Greg Fore, Washington, and Jeremy Glasgow in tow. Rickman would lead the first lap, but Camponovo would jump to the lead on the second circuit.

With Camponovo out front, great two and three wide battled would flare through the field. By lap ten Camponovo continued to lead the feature as Rick Rickman, Greg Fore, and Brian Rickman diced for the second spot. Two laps later Camponovo would get mired in heavy lap traffic, and Rick Rickman would bolt to the lead. During the course of the next lap, Camponovo would slip all the way back to fourth as Brian Rickman moved up to the second spot.

The event’s second caution would wave on lap 16 as Dwight Falcon spun in turn two. At the time of the caution the top five running order consisted of Rick Rickman, Brian Rickman, David Breazeale, Ross Camponovo, and Dane Dacus.

On the restart, Brian Rickman would use a strong run to pull alongside his brother, Rick Rickman, for the lead, and one lap later Brian Rickman would take over the top spot. The next few laps would see several cautions slow the event, and on a lap 20 restart, seventh starting, Neil Baggett would start to make noise as he cracked the top five and began working his way to the front.

A lap 27 restart would be a key turning point in the event as Baggett and Rick Rickman made contact entering turn one causing Baggett to spin in front of the field as several cars piled up in the melee. Rick Rickman was credited with the caution and Baggett retained his position. As the field lined up to go green once again Brian Rickman led the way with Baggett, Dacus, Breazeale, and twelfth starting, Kyle Beard, rounding out the top five.
One lap after the race restarted Dacus was working the low-side in turns three and four, when he tagged an infield tire, bringing his night to a disappointing end. As Dacus was towed back to the pit area, the field prepared for a restart, but the caution would wave again as Ray Mauldin got into the back of Rick Rickman, bringing both driver’s night to an end.
With those two drivers pitside, the field lined up for the final restart of the night as Brian Rickman once again jumped to a comfortable lead with Baggett, Breazeale, and Beard in tow. Rickman would begin to develop a push with ten laps to go as Baggett closed in on the leader. The pair would stage a furious battle for the top spot for the next several laps before Baggett took the lead coming to the white flag. He would go on to lead the final lap to take the $3,000 win over Rick Rickman, Kyle Beard, David Breazeale, and Chad Washington.

The PRO Dirt Car Series will take a long hiatus before returning to action on Saturday, November 13th with a $2,000 to win feature at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Arkansas. David Breazeale Conquers Delayed Four Crown Finale

Greenville, Mississippi (08/13/10) – Not even a one month rain delay could slow David Breazeale’s season down as he mastered an extremely slick Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi) on Friday night to extend his PRO Dirt Car Series point’s lead and claim the Four Crown Nationals title.

A field of 22 Super Late Models returned for the make-up from the July 1st rain delay, and it was Kyle Beard from Trumann, Arkansas, who was the Southern Belle Pole Qualifier, and he was joined on the front row by Shreveport, Louisiana’s Ray Moore for the 40 lap affair.  Given Moore’s track record at Greenville Speedway, he was a crowd favorite for the $2,000 to win feature, but a broken spring would end his night as the field came to the green flag.

With Moore slowing, the initial attempt at a start was waved off, and Breazeale filled the spot vacated by Moore on the front row.  At the drop of the green flag, Beard would bolt to the early lead before Breazeale took control of the top spot exiting turn two.  Behind the lead duo, brothers Rick and Brian Rickman, began to dice it up for the third spot with Leon Henderson rounding out the top five.

As Breazeale and Beard put distance between themselves, and the rest of the field during the early stages of the event, two and three wide racing reigned supreme throughout the field during the first five laps of the event.

By lap six the leaders were catching lap traffic , and the caution would wave on lap eight for Ray Mauldin, who slowed exiting turn four.  The top five runners at the time of the caution were Breazeale, Beard, Brian Rickman, Rick Rickman, and David Ashley, who started 11th.
On the ensuing restart, Ashley would take advantage of the double file restart to rocket into the third position as he and Beard began to battle for the second position.  Another driver on the move was Ross Camponovo, who cracked the top on lap eight.

The caution flag would wave again to slow the field on lap nine for Mark Dodson, who rolled to a stop.  As the race went green again the top five cars continued to mix things up as David Breazeale maintained a slim advantage.

The race would endure a long green flag run over the next twenty laps, and it became evident quickly that Breazeale and Beard were the class of the field as those two drivers stretched their advantage with Ashley in tow.  By lap 26, Beard had reeled in Breazeale as the duo began to battle for the lead.  Four laps later their battle would be temporarily halted for Patrick Michelle, who spun in turn two.

At the time of the caution flag, the running order consisted of Breazeale, Beard, Ashley, Carpenter, and Rick Rickman.  The next few laps would see cautions littering them with the most noticeable flying on lap 36, when third running David Ashley slipped over the berm in turn four, bringing his great run to an end.  Caution would fly one more time on lap 38 as Michelle spun again, which set up a two lap dash to the checkered flag.

Despite bobbling exiting turn four on the white flag lap, Breazeale would pick up the narrow win over Beard, Brian Rickman, Dean Carpenter, and Rick Rickman.

Ray Moore received the GRT Race Cars Hard Luck Award after a part failure forced him to relinquish his outside front row starting position..
After winning three of the four events, David Breazeale claimed the Four Crown Nationals Championship with Kyle Beard and Brian Rickman rounding out the top three.  At press time the balance of the standings were being determined.

The PRO Dirt Car Series be back in action on Saturday, August 14th as the Topless 40 will be held, which will be highlighted by a $3,000 to win/$300 to start feature.  For more information, please visit www.GreenvilleSpeedway.net, www.PRODirtcarSeries.com, and www.NeSmithRacing.com .

David Breazeale Tames The Black Ice For PRO Series Win

Columbus, Mississippi (07/04/10) – It’s no secret that David Breazeale is not very fond of Magnolia Motor Speedway, mainly because the facility has never treated him very well. However, on Sunday night in Round #4 of the Four Crown Nationals, Breazeale conquered the “Black Ice” and overcame a bit of controversy to claim the $2,000 payday.

A series high turnout of 46 Super Models entered the event, which was co-sanctioned by the PRO Dirt Car Series and NeSmith Super Dirt Car Series. For the fourth straight night, Bub McCool powered his entry to the Southern Belle Pole Qualifier Award, but it did not come easily as a broken powerplant in hot laps forced him to unload his backup car for time trials. He would be unphased as he was the only driver in the 14 second bracket in qualifications.

Starting alongside McCool on the front row for the feature event was Chad Thrash, and it would be Thrash, who led the field into turn one on the first lap. Behind Thrash, furious battles waged through the field with Bub McCool, Ronny Lee Hollingsworth, Brian Rickman, and Kyle Beard in tow.
Thrash would quickly jump out to a straight away advantage, and would maintain it until he entered lapped traffic on the eighth circuit. As he began to battle traffic over the next few laps, which was two and three wide in front of him, Thrash’s lead began to dwindle. Lap 15, would see David Breazeale making a pair of daring moves in the middle of the track to move past Rickman, Hollingsworth, and McCool as he assumed the second position. Two laps later the event’s first caution flag would wave as Steve Bryan slowed down the backstretch.

At the time of the caution the top five running order consisted of Thrash, Breazeale, McCool, Brian Rickman, and Hollingsworth. The ensuing restart would see the top running order remain the same before the caution waived again on lap 21 for Kenny Merchant, who slowed in turn three, and then again on lap 24 for a melee involving Jeremy Shaw, Klint Byars, and Ray Mauldin in turn two.

As the field prepared to come back to the green flag for the final time the front runners became bunched together, and Breazeale raced past Thrash to take over the lead, and exiting turn two Thrash pushed up the track allowing Hollingsworth to slip by as well.

Breazeale would drive away from the field over the remainder of the event to claim his fourth PRO Dirt Car Series win of 2010, and his second Four Crown Nationals triumph. Chad Thrash showed his disapproval of the happenings of the late race restart, feeling that the second place car jumped the start. As a result, Thrash asked for an explanation on the front stretch after the race. Series officials maintained the decision on the event’s final restart much to Thrash’s dismay.

Ronny Lee Hollingsworth, Chad Thrash, Bub McCool, and Ray Moore rounded out the top five in the final running order.

Clay Fisher received the GRT Race Cars Hard Luck Award after qualifying for the main event, but being forced to scratch with a broken valve spring.

The Four Crown Nationals point’s championship will be determined when the Round #1 feature from Greenville Speedway is completed on Friday, August 13th. David Breazeale currently leads the mini-series standings.

The PRO Dirt Car Series will take a month off before returning to action on August 13th-14th at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Mississippi. On Friday, August 13th the postponed feature for the Four Crown Nationals rainout will be held, and on Saturday, August 14th the Topless 40 will be held, which will be highlighted by a $3,000 to win/$300 to start feature. Bub McCool Claims First Career PRO Series Win

(Meridian, Mississippi) – Bub McCool overcame a furious midrace challenge from Jimbo McDuffie and David Breazeale to claim the $2,000 win in Round #3 of the Four Crown Nationals at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Mississippi.

A stout field of thirty-seven Super Late Models assembled at Rodney Wing’s Whynot Motorsports Park for Round #3 of the Four Crown Nationals. For the third straight night, Bub McCool blazed to the Southern Belle Pole Qualifier Award. He was joined on the front row by Jason Cliburn.

It was McCool, who got a great jump at the start of the race to lead the first lap over Cliburn, Ronny Lee Hollingsworth, Jimbo McDuffie, and Chad Thrash. As McCool jumped to the early lead Hollingsworth and McDuffie began to battle side by side for the second spot as various two and three wide battles reigned supreme through the field.

By lap three Cliburn disposed of Hollingsworth in the battle for the second spot as he found himself ten car lengths behind the leader. With McCool maintaining the lead, the first several laps would see great racing throughout the field, and by lap 8, McCool was already entering lapped traffic.

With the leaders working lapped traffic, it was David Breazeale, who was on the move, and by the time that the event’s lone caution flew on lap 15 as Bradley Price rolled to a stop in turn three. The caution eliminated McCool’s large lead with Cliburn, McDuffie, Hollingsworth, and Breazeale making up the top five in the running order.

Total chaos would ensue on the restart as the field flared three and even four wide for position with the green flag in the air. McDuffie raced past Cliburn for second as Cliburn began to fade. With McCool on the hub and McDuffie on the cushion the duo raced furiously for the lead as Breazeale raced his way into the third position and joined the battle for the lead.

Two laps later on the seventeenth circuit, McDuffie overtook McCool for the lead, and one lap later Breazeale would rocket to the second spot past McCool.

Despite slipping to third, Bub McCool would stay committed to the bottom, and on lap 22 he would race past Breazeale and McDuffie to return to the lead. He would never relinquish it as he went on to lead the remaining laps en route to his first win of the 2010 season in his #57J Victory Circle Chassis. Breazeale, Hollingsworth, Chad Thrash, and McDuffie rounded out the top five.

Round #4 of the Four Crown Nationals will be held on Sunday, July 4th at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi. For more information, please visit www.MagnoliaMotorSpeedway.net, www.PRODirtcarSeries.com, and www.NeSmithRacing.com .

David Breazeale Rides To PRO Tour Win in Four Crown Nationals Second Round

Winona, Mississippi (07/02/10) – David Breazeale from Four Corners, Mississippi powered his #54 Henderson Motorsports Mastersbilt to his third PRO Dirt Car Series Super Late Model win of the 2010 season on Friday night at Central Mississippi Speedway in Winona, Mississippi in Round #2 of the Four Crown Nationals.

Thirty-one Super Late Models converged on the 1/3 mile, Central Mississippi Speedway on Friday night for the second round of the Four Crown Nationals, which is being co-sanctioned by the PRO Dirt Car Super Late Model Series and the Nesmith Super Dirt Car Super Late Model Series.

In Southern Belle Pole Qualifying it was déjà vu as Bub McCool blazed to the fast time with Kyle Beard joining him on the front row for the 40 lap feature after setting fast time in his own group.  As the race went green, Beard jumped to the lead with McCool, third starting Breazeale, and Dean Carpenter in pursuit.  Just one lap would be completed before the caution flag flew for Ray Moore, who made solid contact with an infield tire in turn two.  Moore would keep rolling, but the caution would fly as several cars checked up to avoid him, and as a result Moore would be credited with the caution and sent to the tail of the field with heavy body damage.

On the ensuing restart, Beard would find himself under fire from McCool and Breazeale for the top spot as the second and third place runners began to stage a furious battle for the runner-up spot.

Lap 4 would see back-to-back cautions wave as first debris in turn one drew the yellow flag, and then on the next restart, Bo Gordon would get spun in turns three and four bringing his night to a disappointing early end.

The third attempt to vacate lap 4 would be successful as Beard maintained a narrow advantage with McCool and Breazeale swapping the second spot on almost a lap-by-lap basis.  The race would begin to endure a long green flag run and by lap 11 the leaders were entering heavy lapped traffic as Breazeale moved to second and set his sights on the leader.  Exiting turn four on the fourteenth circuit, Breazeale would utilize a lap car to work his way past Beard for the lead.

The next several laps would go caution free until lap 30, when the yellow was displayed for Mark Dodson, who spun in turn three.  The field lined up for a ten lap dash to the checkers with Breazeale, Beard, McCool, Carpenter, and Klint Byars making up the running order in the top five.  As the race restarted for the final time, Breazeale drove away from the pack in the final laps and claimed the $2,000 payday over Kyle Beard, Bub McCool, Dean Carpenter, and Jeff White.

Round #3 of the Four Crown Nationals will be held on Saturday, July 3rd at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Mississippi before the finale is held on Sunday, July 4th at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi.  For more information, please visit www.WhynotMotorsportsPark.com, www.MagnoliaMotorSpeedway.net, www.PRODirtcarSeries.com, and www.NeSmithRacing.com .

Josh Putnam Prowls On P.R.O. Foes At North Alabama

Columbus, Mississippi (03/20/10) – Josh “Pedal To The Metal” Putnam battled past an overheating engine and a stout field of competitors to claim the $2,500 prize on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, Alabama, in an event that was co-sanctioned by the P.R.O. Dirt Car Super Late Model Series and the NeSmith Super Dirt Car Super Late Model Series.

Twenty-six entries converged on the ¼ mile oval, which is appropriately tabbed “Alabama’s Action Track”.  In Southern Belle qualifying, Josh Putnam of Killen, Alabama blazed to fast time with a lap of 13.393 seconds around the clay oval in his #212 Pierce Race Car/Competition Engine Super Late Model, which was over ten tenths of a second faster than his nearest competitor.  He was joined on the front row for the 40 lap feature by Brian Rickman of Columbus, Mississippi in his #WFO Mastersbilt.

As the event got underway Putnam and Rickman battled side by side for the lead with Rickman narrowly leading the first lap over Putnam, Rick Rickman, Kyle Beard, and David Breazeale.

As the field battled two and three wide around the clay oval, the caution flag would wave on the second circuit for debris on the track.  On the ensuing restart, Rick Rickman drove past Putnam for the second position.  The field would only complete one lap before the caution flag flew again for a spinning Jeremy Glasgow, who had a tire going flat.

At the time of the caution the top five running order consisted of Brian Rickman, Rick Rickman, Josh Putnam, David Breazeale, and Kyle Beard.

Over the next few laps the field would endure a few cautions for various spins before finally hitting a long green flag run that included Josh Putnam using the high groove to rocket past the Rickman brothers to move from the third spot to the lead on the seventh circuit.  Things would not be coming easy for Putnam though as his car began to show evidence of smoke with an overheating engine by lap 10.

With Putnam out front, Brian and Rick Rickman battled side by side for the second position for a few laps before David Breazeale joined the fray on lap 12, and ultimately moved past Brian Rickman for the third spot a few laps later.  As the field approached the midway point, the leaders were closing in on lapped traffic, as several drivers had begun to work their way to the front, which included 16th starting Eric Cooley, who was up to the 9th position at lap 20.

Caution flew again on lap 23, and near-disaster struck for the leader, Putnam, as his over-heating car stalled on the front straightaway during the caution period.  Putnam was finally able to get his car back rolling again as he assumed the lead ahead of Rick Rickman, Breazeale, Brian Rickman, and Ronnie Johnson.

As the race went green for the final time, Breazeale raced past Rick Rickman for second and set his sights on the leader.  Breazeale would chase Putnam through the cushion and lapped traffic for the remainder of the race, but was unable to catch the leader.

Putnam claimed his first win of the season over Breazeale, Rick Rickman, Ronnie Johnson, and Anthony Burroughs.

In victory lane an emotional Putnam thanked his crew, sponsors, and fans, who have supported his career.  He went on to say that “with the direction that his program is headed now that he feels that there will be more wins to come in 2010!”

Eric Cooley powered his #33c Victory Circle M1 Chassis By Moyer/525 Spec Motor Super Late Model to the American Race Tires Hard Charger Award after advancing from his 16th starting position to a 6th place finish.

Josh Putnam was the recipient of the Hoosier Race Tires Top Performer Award for his win.

The P.R.O. Dirt Car Series will return to action with the tour’s third event at Central Mississippi Speedway in Winona, Mississippi on Saturday, April 3rd with a $2,000 to win event. For more information on Central Mississippi Speedway, please visit www.CMSDirt.com.

Chris Wall Claims Wild P.R.O. Series Opener

Columbus, Mississippi (03/13/10) – “The Intimagator” Chris Wall from Holden, Louisiana rocketed his way to the $2,000 victory in the wildly exciting debut of the Promoters Racing Organization (P.R.O.) Super Late Model Dirt Car Series on Saturday night at Columbus Speedway.

Thirty-Eight Super Late Models, representing six states entered the event at the 1/3 mile, high-banked oval.  Columbus Speedway is tabbed the “Baddest Bullring in the South,” and on Saturday night it once again validated its name in an event that saw several different leaders along with three and four wide racing throughout the night.

Bub McCool from Vicksburg, Mississippi started the evening’s festivities by setting fast time around the clay oval to earn the Southern Belle Pole Position for the 40 lap feature.  McCool was joined on the front row for the main event by Ronnie Lee Hollingsworth from Northport, Alabama.  As the feature went green, Bub McCool blasted to the lead with Hollingsworth, Billy Moyer Jr., William Thomas, and Klint Byars in tow.

During the opening rounds the top three cars would battle three wide for the lead with McCool maintaining a slim advantage.  By the third lap, Hollingsworth was applying heavy pressure to McCool for the lead, and the duo would swap the lead several times over the next few laps as McCool worked the extreme highside of the track with Hollingsworth working the middle of the track.  Entering turn one on lap 7, McCool would make a daring move in lapped traffic, which sent him skating toward the wall.  He would recover, but not before Hollingsworth bolted to the lead.

By lap 10, the leaders were engaged in heavy lapped traffic as 11th starting Chris Wall cracked the top three, and began to reel in the front-runners.  Five laps later, Wall would use the low-line to race past McCool for the second position.

The first caution of the event would fly on lap 20 when Dean Carpenter climbed the turn two wall.  Carpenter would be able to continue as he joined the back of the pack.  At the time of the caution the top five running order consisted of Hollingsworth, Wall, McCool, David Breazeale, and William Thomas.

On the ensuing double file restart, Bub used the highside to rocket past Wall and Hollingsworth to take the lead as the crowd came to their feet.  Four laps later, Wall would race past Hollingsworth, who had begun to fade with mechanical woes on the front of his mount.  With Wall on the hub and McCool on the extreme high-side, the lead duo battled for the lead for the next four laps before Wall took the lead on lap 27.  One lap later McCool would retake possession of the top spot, but his reign at the front would come to an end on lap 29, when contact with the backstretch wall bent the rearend, bringing his night to an end.

As the field prepared to restart for the final time Wall was the leader with Hollingsworth, Burroughs, Breazeale, and Thrash (started 16th) rounding out the top five.  On the restart Burroughs moved past Hollingsworth for second as Chad Thrash moved to the fourth spot.  One lap later, Thrash raced past Hollingsworth for second as Wall built a straightaway lead on the field.

The remainder of the event went caution free with Wall claiming the win over Chad Thrash, Anthony Burroughs, David Breazeale, and Dane Dacus.

In victory lane, Wall thanked his crew for preparing an awesome race car, and commented “The crew did their job all night, but the driver dropped the ball in time trials, so I had to really get up on the wheel in the feature.  The car was just awesome!”

Chad Thrash claimed the American Race Tires Hard Charger Award after advancing from his 16th starting position to a 2nd place finish.

Chris Wall was the recipient of the Hoosier Race Tires Top Performer Award for his win.

The P.R.O. Dirt Car Series will return to action with the tour’s second event at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, Alabama on Saturday, March 20th with a $2,500 to win/$250 to start event.  For more information on North Alabama Speedway, please visit www.NorthAlabamaSpeedway.com .
