Nostalgia Picture Page 6

This is the 44 magnum Mustang car driven at Hill Top speedway in La.  My dad is in the pic and now I use the 44 magnum #.

Thanks Michael Hudson
Note - no kick rails on Rick's car.  He only ran them when the track made him put them on. (courtesy of Carol Morrow)

An extremely young, Rick Ferkel at the 1974 Edition of the Western United States Championship.  If you look closely you will notice that he was the champion. (courtesy of Carol Morrow)
This is a picture of the little modified/sprint that Benito Greenlee raced with the Dallas Racing Club in the late 60's& early 70's.  At this time they ran the same cars on asphalt and dirt.  This car is one of - if not the last "modifieds" to race at the Knoxville Nationals.  It was owned by Carl & Jeri  Gentry.  It was as full sprint car - just the modified "tail" .   Once, when  he won a sprint car race,  they wouldn't pay him the full purse, because it wasn't a "sprint car".
from Benito - "I ran #74 last at Knoxville in about 76 or 77 because I ran the 11 car there for three years"

This picture was taking at Houston about 1972 or 1973. Benito last raced #11 at Knoxville either 1979 or 1980, and did some rides as late as 1982 up north.

Wow, is this cool or what?  This is an old Mar-Car Program from 1960 at Taft Stadium in Oklahoma City. They still play football there, but no racing though..... (courtesy of Carol Morrow)

Ferkel at Devil's Bowl.  I think this was the first World of Outlaws show.  It might have been Ferkel's first Winternationals.  That is Corky Harris with the flag.   This was taken at driver introductions prior to the feature.  Lanny Edwards had the track crew really decked out for the first few special shows.
