Thursday rained out at WMDTC; Friday now a doubleheader

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (July 25) -- Thursday's program at the 3rd Annual World Modified Dirt Track Championship presented by Bauer Built Tire and Hanson tire Service has been rained out and postponed until Friday.

The track received nearly two inches of rain between 2-5 p.m. Couple with a forecast of more wet weather later this evening, event organizers were forced to make the call to pull the plug.

The good news is that Friday will now be a doubleheader with back-to-back shows on tap.

The first show will be the originally scheduled line-up for Thursday with hot laps at 5 p.m. and featuring the Iron Man Challenge for USRA Stock Cars and the USMTS Modifieds.

The second show will begin at approximately 8:30-depending on the length of the first program and track prep between the two segments-and will be the originally scheduled Friday line-up of Wissota Midwest Mods and USMTS Modifieds. The USMTS portion will be the Friday-only qualifiers and all drivers using mulligans from Wednesday and the earlier show on Friday (Thursday's postponed program).

Pit gates will open at 2 p.m., grandstands swing open at 3 p.m. and hot laps start at 5 p.m. for the first program. After that show, the grandstand will be cleared and fans can then re-enter for the second program.

Please note that all those entering the pit area for Program #1 must purchase two pit passes. Following the conclusion of Program #1, those wishing to leave may stop at the pit shack on their way out, have a track official remove the armband and get a refund for the second pit pass paid for earlier. Each person must exit the pits before hot laps begin for Program #2.

In each of the two USMTS Modified program on Friday, points are awarded for qualifying, heat races and the main events, with the top 6 earning a spot in one of the first 18 starting slots for Saturday's finale which will feature an "alphabet soup" of main events as drivers try one last time to make their way into the big finale.

Adult grandstand tickets for each of Friday's programs are $25 and Saturday's adult ticket price is $35. Kids ages 12 and under are $10 each day.

The winner of Saturday's 100-lap finale will walk away with a whopping $20,000 or more. No less than $1,500 will go home with each of the 31 main event starters.

Ryan Gustin is the defending WMDTC champion and will qualify on Thursday. Brad Waits won the inaugural event in 2011. He is slated to qualify on Friday.

Nearly $100,000 has been earmarked for Saturday's championship main event alone, with a total purse of more than $160,000 posted for the four-day extravaganza.
