Corey Posey Unthaws Winchester’s Winterfest Super Late Model Feature

Winchester, TN (02/25/2012) –  #16 Corey Posey of Petersburg, Tn.,  captured the $3000 to-win super late model event at Winchester Speedway’s Annual Winterfest  with 37 cars signed in for the $3000 to-win 40 lap Winterfest Event, to kick off the race season in Tennessee.

Mike Weeks of Lenoir, Tn., set quick time with a 15.02 second lap, earning him the pole position. Corey Posey qualified second, followed by Lamar Scroggins, Mark Haddon, Jason Walshan, David Brannon, John Owenby, Josh Johnson,  Jerry Coffman, Jerry Ashley, and Daniel Miller who were all locked into the feature event based on time trails.

Posey started from the pole position, after fast qualifier Weeks elected to take the outside position to start the 40 lap event. Posey having the pole and inside lane was to the advantage for Posey, as he led the field to the green flag, he jumped out to the lead with Weeks on his bumper for the first three laps of the event, Posey quickly settled in and extended his lead over the field. The first caution of four, fell on lap 10, as a car spun coming out of turn four.

On the restart, Posey fired quickly on the field to get out ahead of Weeks and the rest of the field. The slick smooth surface of Winchester Speedway wouldn’t allow for much passing, as the field would be glued to the bottom groove of the track and the man out front would have the upper hand to dictate for any passing on the track.

Caution number two waved on lap 12, as Walker spun in turn four. The next restart would be short, as several cars went spinning coming out of turn four to set up another restart. Posey, Weeks, Busha, Welshan, and Scroggins were the top 5 cars coming to the green on the lap 12 restart.  Posey continued to set the pace on the field by getting a straight away lead over the entire field. Starting to get in lap cars Posey began to work traffic and Weeks began to chip away at Posey’s lead but Posey  continued to march away from Weeks.

The fourth caution would halt the race on lap 25, as Alan Holmes got together with another car and went off of turn 2. On the final restart, Posey, Weeks, Busha, Welshan, and Scroggins held their positions and brought the field to the green flag for the final restart. Posey made no mistake to continue to fire on the field and set the pace, he had been sitting all night over second place running Weeks. Leading by more than a straight away Posey set the cruise control over his field of competitors and cruised to the victory, with Weeks following in second, Busha, Welshan, Scroggins. Haddon, Owenby, Brannon, Johnson, and Miller rounding out the top 10.
