Mark Whitener Backs into $2k Payday at Bubba Raceway Park

Middleburg, Florida (10/22/13) - Mark Whitener didn't cross the finish line in the first position in Saturday night's $2,000-to-win event at Bubba Raceway Park (Ocala, Florida) in his #58 Big Frog Motorsports/Dave's Towing/B&B Produce Late Model, but by the time that post race technical inspection was completed he was awarded the win.

The weekend started on a sour note on Friday night, when a broken rear-end in practice forced the team to go to their underpowered, Crate Late Model for Saturday's program.

Heat race action on Saturday evening didn't see much of an improvement in Whitener's luck as a broken, right-rear brake caliper, while leading the heat race forced him pit side. As a result Mark started 12th on the grid for the feature, and had advanced to the 3rd position, when he made contact with Kyle Bronson, which resulted in Whitener getting sent to the tail. Over the remainder of the event Mark rebounded to a second place finish, but in post-race inspection the winner was found to have an illegal spoiler height. As a result Mark Whitener and Big Frog Motorsports were awarded the victory, which marked their 11th triumph of the 2013 season.

Dereck Ramirez Closes 2013 Season with Top Five in USRA Fall Nationals

Woodward, Oklahoma (10/22/13) – Southern New Mexico Speedway (Las Cruces, New Mexico) was the destination for Dereck Ramirez in his #4r Ramirez Motorsports/Hughes Race Car/Pro Power Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified over the weekend as he traveled to the 3/8 mile oval to participate in the 14th Annual USRA Fall Nationals, which posted a $10,000 top prize and marked his final event of the 2013 campaign.

On Thursday evening with 46 competitors in action Dereck charged to the win in his heat race to earn the pole position for the main event, where he was joined on the front row by Ricky Thornton Jr. Ramirez grabbed the lead as the race went green, and paced the first six laps before Thornton Jr. jumped to the lead. For much of the race Dereck ran in the 2nd spot before fading late to a 6th place finish behind race winner, Terry Phillips, Ricky Thornton Jr., Rodney Sanders, Jacob Gallardo, and Fito Gallardo.

Friday night found Ramirez looking to lock his way into Saturday night's finale, and he would accomplish just that goal by scoring a 4th place finish in the main event after starting sixth. He followed Johnny Scott, Johnny Bone Jr., and Chris Dawson across the finish line.

In Saturday night's $10,000-to-win finale Dereck battled in the top ten throughout the feature before crossing the finish line in 5th behind race winner, Terry Phillips, Fito Gallardo, Stormy Scott, andd Jake O'Neil.

“It was a good way to put a wraps on our 2013 season,” commented Ramirez in regards to his top five finish in the finale. “I have to thank my crew, sponsors, and family for their amazing support this year. Now we’ll start thrashing to get ready for the 20 14 season.”
