Grandstands fill as Legit Speedway Honors the Trucking Industry

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

It was a beautiful fall night on Saturday at Legit Speedway as the stands filled up to honor those in the trucking industry. It was a free grandstand event made possible by a large number of sponsors. Big rigs from the major truck distributors in the Ozarks as well as a large number of ‘show trucks’ from area trucking companies were on hand for people to see up close the industry that keeps America moving. State Representative Shawn Rhoades and Howell County Northern Commissioner Bill Lovelace were on hand to address the crowd and show appreciation for the contributions trucking makes to the local and state economy. At intermission, the track was filled with big rigs from the area as they took some laps before the crowd. A highlight of the night was when the lights were  shut down and the big rigs were making laps with just their running lights on . It was quite a show.

There  was a good car count and fans got to enjoy some great dirt track racing.. The Hughes boys from West Plains led the pack in the Late Model feature. It was Josh Hughes coming away with the  win. Right behind Josh in 2nd place was Jason Hughes. Andrew Rettig of Sikeston finished 3rd. Kaleb Stolba finished in 4th place which was good enough to keep him atop the points race for the season.

It was Shawn Walsh (73) from Ash Flat Arkansas taking the checkered flag in the IMCA Modified division.  The young man from Ash Flat ran in 2nd place until lap 19 of the 20 lap feature, when he was able to pass  Logan Martin (36M) of West Plains, who had led the race for those first 18 laps. Martin finished in 2nd.  Matt Barry finished 3rd. Daryl Hay of Doniphan finished in 4th place and keeps his lead in the season points race. The top 10 drivers in each class win points money at the end of the season.

In Super Stock it was the KEG1 car of Jeremy Russell claiming the victory check. Russell, from Brookland Arkansas, had a great race, moving from 2nd to the lead spot on lap seven of the race.  Donnie Miller from West Plains finished behind Russell in 2nd place.  Tony Anglin of Walnut Ridge Arkansas finished in 3rd. Chris Piper and Jeff North of West Plains finished 4th and 5th.  Donnie Miller remains on top in the season points race.

Logan Martin, racing in his 2nd division of the night, took the victory in the USRA B MOD competition. In a race that seemingly had more cautions than laps, Martin was able to avoid the fray and come away with the win in a race where nearly half of the field of 28 did not finish. Brandon Walsh from Mammoth Spring Arkansas raced his way from his 12th place starting position to finish 2nd.  Ben Solburg of Billings was 3rd. Carl Murphy of Caulfield finished 4th and earned enough points to maintain his lead in the points race.

In Hobby Stock, Dexter Frost crossed the finish line in 1st place but was disqualified at the tech barn, paving the way for Darren Fox of Mtn. Grove to make his sixth appearance on victory lane this season. That win also keeps Fox in first place for the season in points.  After the front-runner was DQ’d, that moved Kevin Collins of West Plains up to 2nd place. Donny Herring finished in 3rd.

Finally, in the Bone Stock Division, it was first-timer  Ray Collins from Koshkonong coming away with the win. Stone Peterson of West Plains finished 2nd.  Bailey Harlan of Pomona finished in 3rd.

Legit Speedway would like to thank all the sponsors who paid the grandstand admission for the large crowd and all the members of the trucking industry who participated in the event.
