Ricky Weiss Clinches Blaine Brothers Challenge Championship

Headingly, Manitoba, Canada (08/13/14) – Ricky Weiss and the team concluded their busy stint with the Blaine Brothers Challenge Series over the weekend, and by the time the dust had settled Weiss was officially crowned the series champion in his #7 Derrick's Sandblasting/Bloomquist/ Pro Power Racing Engine Super Late Model

A tripleheader with the tour kicked off on Thursday night at Norman County Raceway (Ada, Minnesota). Twenty-seven WISSOTA Late Models registered for the event, and a heat race win sent Ricky to the redraw for the main event. After receiving the seventh starting spot for the feature, Weiss raced to a ninth place finish in the final rundown.

Action shifted to Amsoil Speedway (Superior, Wisconsin) on Friday night for a $2,000-to-win race. Twenty-six entries converged on the oval, and Ricky started his outing by finishing third in the first heat race to lock into the ninth starting position on the feature grid. In the main event Weiss battle his way up to third where he finish behind race winner, Brady Smith, and Jake Redetzke. Don Shaw and Darrell Nelson rounded out the top five finishers.

The series' season finale was contested on Saturday night at Ogilvie Raceway (Ogilvie, Minnesota). A modest fifteen entries were on hand for the program, which saw Weiss finish third in his heat race after starting fifth. He drew the fourth starting spot for the feature, but ultimately settled to a sixth place finish in the final rundown.

“After a couple of weeks of fighting and clawing for this title, I definitely slept good on Saturday night, when the final event was completed and we had the championship,” commented Weiss. “I have to thank my team, my sponsors, and my great fans for their support. This championship is for them.”

This weekend, August 14th-16th, will see Weiss chasing three more wins. Action opens on Thursday at Red River Co-Op Speedway (Winnipeg, Manitoba) before moving to River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, North Dakota) on Friday and concluding at I-94 Speedway (Fergus Falls, MN) on Saturday evening.
