USMTS Casey's Cup" fires off this weekend

The regular season has concluded and now the playoffs begin as the road warriors of the United States Modified Touring Series embark on their annual crusade in pursuit of the most lucrative title in all of dirt modified racing.

The Hunt for the USMTS Casey's Cup will begin this Friday, Aug. 2, at the Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Ark. The following day, the action moves to the West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, Mo., before wrapping up the tripleheader weekend at the Monett Speedway in Monett, Mo., on Sunday, Aug. 4.

FRIDAY, AUG. 2 - BATESVILLE MOTOR SPEEDWAY, LOCUST GROVE, ARK.

This will be the third visit by the USMTS to Mooney Starr's 3/8-mile high-banked dirt oval nestled in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, and the first time since July 26, 2007. Peyton Taylor was the winner of that race while Jared Landers won a USMTS event there in May of the same year.

Joining the stars and cars of the USMTS will be NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader. It will be Schrader's 35th career start with the USMTS. He scored his first and only win at the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, N.D., on July 28, 2010.

Gates open at 5:30 and races start at 8:00. Grandstand tickets are $15 and youth ages 15 and under get in for free. Support classes will be Late Models, Street Stocks, Sport Mods and Super Stars.

The track will also host an open practice on Thursday night from 7:30-10:00. Pit passes will be $15 for the test 'n' tune session.

SATURDAY, AUG. 3 - WEST PLAINS MOTOR SPEEDWAY, WEST PLAINS, MO.

Saturday night will be alright for fighting as the stars and cars of the United States Modified Touring Series invade the historic West Plains Motor Speedway.

Mother Nature thwarted the series debut here in 2011, but fans finally got their due last year and witnessed Kelly Shryock take down his 177th career USMTS triumph. This past May, Jason Hughes picked up a win in West Plains.

The West Plains Motor Speedway is a 100-acre motorsports facility with an exciting 3/8-mile red clay oval surrounded by seating that will accommodate more than 12,000 fans. Fans can enjoy the action from their choice of molded contour seating, ground level bleachers or high-rise stadium style seating.

On-site camping is available free of charge with clean restrooms, showers, water fill and a dump station for motor homes. Full service food and souvenir concessions are conveniently located within the facility along with acres of free parking.

Pit gates open at 5:00, grandstands open at 6:00, hot laps begin at 7:00 and racing starts at 7:30. Also in action will be USRA B-Mods, Hobby Stocks, Super Stocks and Crate Late Models. Adult tickets are $15, Kids ages 6-11 are $5 and children 5 and under are free. Pit passes are $35 or $15 for kids.

SUNDAY, AUG. 4 - MONETT SPEEDWAY, MONETT, MO.

On Sunday, the USMTS Modifieds make their 16th appearance at Randy Mooneyham's Monett Speedway in Monett, Mo., for the 8th Annual USMTS Summer Shootout.

With his win in last year's event, Ryan Gustin has three career USMTS wins at the 'Grand Ol' Lady' along with Terry Phillips. Hughes has two triumphs at 3/8-mile red clay oval. Other former winners here include Shryock, Johnny Bone Jr., George White and Mark Noble.

In addition to the USMTS Modifieds, fans will see B-Mods, Pure Stocks and Pro-4s in action. The pit gate opens at 4:00, grandstand gates open at 5:00, hot laps begin at 7:00 and the first green flag will be unfurled at 7:30.
