Corning kicks off four big nights this week for USMTS drivers and fans

CORNING, Iowa (Aug. 16) -- The Hunt for the USMTS Casey's Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental is back in action this Thursday-Sunday, Aug. 18-21, with four shows in three states that will cap the first half of the championship campaign.

The fun gets started on Thursday when Malvern Trust & Savings Bank presentes the return of the United States Modified Touring Series to the Adams County Speedway in Corning, Iowa, for the first time since 2010. Gates are slated to open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7 p.m.

Jason Krohn was the winner the last time the USMTS graced the historic half-mile black clay in the Southwest corner of the Hawkeye State. Jon Tesch captured the first-ever show at ACS in 2004. Other winners include Kelly Shryock, Zack VanderBeek, Ryan Ruter, Al Hejna, Tony Fraise and current points leader Jason Hughes.

Hobby Stocks and B-Mods will also be running for $1,000 to win in each class. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for youth and children net yet in sixth grade get in for free. A family pass is also available for $40 and is good for two adults and all kids in the household. Pit passes are $30.

Mike Jergens and his Snickers-sponsored USMTS Modified will be on hand for a meet 'n' greet with fans from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Casey's located at 600 Quincy in Corning.

On Friday, Aug. 19, the biggest and richest one-day event in the history of dirt modified racing will take place when fans and the top drivers in the sport converge on the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., for the inaugural "Grant Junghans Memorial."

More than $100,000 will be paid out to drivers on this night, including $10,002 to the win and more than $1,000 to start the main event.

As part of the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental, the Best of the Best in dirt modified racing will be on hand for this epic show, as well as many surprise entries from regional open-wheel favorites to dirt late model superstars.

Tow money will be a minimum of $152 for all drivers not making the 30-car feature race, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Extra money-lots of it-will be doled out to drivers finishing in pre-determined mystery positions, lap money, heat race bonuses, hard charger awards and a Long Tow Award with the following bonuses: 1. $500, 2. $400, 3. $300, 4. $200, 5. $200.

Not only are the Modifieds making more bank, but the payouts for the USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods have also been expanded to $700 to win each class (no entry fee).

Pits open at 4:30 p.m., spectator gates open at 5, hot laps start at 7 and racing begins at 7:30.

General admission seating is $20 for adults, $8 for kids ages 7-12 and children 6 and under get in for free. Terrace parking is $23 for adults, $10 for kids ages 7-12 and children 6 and under get in for free (must have terrace voucher to purchase terrace ticket). Pit passes are $35 for ages 7+ and $10 for 6 and under.

The Hunt for the USMTS Casey's Cup treks south to the Salina Highbanks Speedway on Saturday, Aug. 20, for the "USMTS Salute to Veterans." The event will also feature OCRS Sprint Cars, B-Mods, Grand Nationals and Pure Stocks.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and races start at 7. General admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, $10 for kids and free for all active military and veterans. Please call for V.I.P. seating availability.

Then on Sunday, Aug. 21, the series returns to the popular 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan.

In the seven previous trips to C. Ray Hall's facility, Jeremy Payne and Rodney Sanders each have two wins while Cade Dillard got his first here a little more than two months ago on June 9. Stormy Scott won the 2014 'Hunt' race here and current points leader Jason Hughes captured the inaugural event in 2008.

The NCRA Mod Lites will join the traveling USMTS titans with gates opening at 5 p.m. and race time at 7. Fans can find $2 discount coupons at Bumper To Bumper Auto Parts in El Dorado and Newton, Garnett Auto locations in Wichita and Derby, plus Stephens Auto Parts in Hutchinson.
