Five fast and furious Northern nights next for USMTS road warriors

NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (Aug. 12) - United States Modified Touring Series drivers are locked and loaded as the next five events in the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's Cup take place this Wednesday through Sunday, Aug. 14-18, at five fan-favorite dirt ovals in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Each event will pay a minimum of $3,000 to win with the top prize ballooning to $5,000 for drivers taking part in the Big Dog Buy-In. If one driver can win all five, he or she will go home with as much as $25,000 during the 100-hour span.

Action kicks off on Wednesday, Aug. 14, for the rain-delayed second half of the 15th Annual Masters at the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis. Pro Stocks and Midwest Modifieds will also be on the program with racing set for a 7:00 start.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students ages 6-16 and kids age 5 and under are free. Lucas Schott and his AMP Energy USMTS Modified will be on hand for a meet 'n' greet at the Casey's General Store located at 5321 Wyoming Trail in Wyoming, Minn., from 11:30-1:30 on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Aug. 15, the mighty USMTS Modifieds return to the Rice Lake Speedway in Rice Lake, Wis., for a 40-lap main event presented by Bill's Distributing. Also racing will be WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and Pure Stocks. Race time is 7:00.

On race day, fans can pick up coupons good for $2 off adult admission at Casey's General Stores locations in North Branch and Wyoming, Minn.

The Rice Lake Speedway is a high-banked 1/3-mile clay oval located 1.0 mile north of Rice Lake, between SR 48 and Barron County SS. The track phone number is 715-236-2002 and more information can be obtained by calling 715-205-2861 or by checking the speedway website at www.ricelakespeedway.net.

Friday, Aug. 16, will find the fearless USMTS lead-footed speed freaks at Bob Timm's Mississippi Thunder Speedway near Fountain City, Wis. Presented by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Winona, the action will be joined by USRA B-Mods, WISSOTA Street Stocks and 600 Mods with the first green flag scheduled for 7:00.

Get there early to watch the Midwest Mini Mods and Outlaw Mini Mods at 6:00 on the short track. A family pass pack is just $40 and gets in two adults and up to three children. Adult general admission is $18, seniors get in for $16, students ages 13-18 are $9 and children ages 12 and under get in for free.

Coupons good for $2 off adult general admission will be available Friday at Casey's General Stores locations in Sparta as well as Oronoco, Preston and Rochester in Minnesota.

Day four goes down on Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, Minn. Midwest Modifieds
Street Stocks and Hornets will join the on-track action at the four-year-old facility with a start time of 6:30.

Adult grandstand tickets are $20 and pit passes are $35. Fans can get $2-off coupons at Casey's General Stores locations in Cambridge, Milaca and Princeton on race day. From 11:30-1:30, Steve Whiteaker Jr. and his Cheetos-sponsored machine will be at the Casey's located at 810 N. rum River Dr. in Princeton.

The Ogilvie Raceway is a 3/8-mile semi-banked dirt oval located about 2 miles east of Ogilvie on the south side of SR 23. The grandstands have a seating capacity of nearly 2,000 and also features reserved track-side parking for people to view the race from turns 1 and 2 from their vehicles. The five-day work week for the rugged USMTS road warriors wraps up on Sunday, Aug. 18, with an encore performance at the Granite City Speedway in Sauk Rapids, Minn. Midwest Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, Hornets, Street Stocks and Mod Fours will also be on the racing card presented by Viking Coca-Cola and Luther Honda.

Doors open at 3:00 with races getting underway at 5:30. Adult grandstand tickets are $17, seniors and military personnel are $15, students ages 7-17 are $5 and children ages 6 and under are free. Pit passes are $35.

On race day, race fans can find coupons good for $2 off adult admission at the Casey's General Stores locations in Foley, St. Cloud, St. Joseph and Waite Park. His older twin brother, Stormy Scott, is second and trails by just 18 points with 2010 USMTS National Champion Jason Hughes another 20 markers back in third, Rodney Sanders another three points behind in fourth and Zack VanderBeek close behind in fifth.

While the drivers participating in 'The Hunt' will be grappling for their piece of more than $60,000 in year-end points fund cash and thousands in contingency awards, all entrants will lock horns on a nightly basis for at least $3,000 to win ($5,000 to win with the Big Dog Buy-In) and nearly than $400,000 in prize money up for grabs during the 17-race campaign.

More than $40,000 in points fund money has already been doled out to top points-getters in the three regional campaigns, with another $50,000 or more in points fund cash earmarked for drivers in the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's Cup. The champion will pocket at least $15,000, and any driver competing in all events during 'The Hunt' will earn a minimum of $1,000 at season's end.

The 2013 Hunt for the USMTS Casey's Cup will wrap up on Thursday, Sept. 19,  at the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., on the first night of the 15th Annual Featherlite Fall Jamboree.

TOP DOG BONUS: All drivers ranked among the top-10 points in are guaranteed a minimum of $400 in earnings at each event. Each driver must maintain perfect attendance during the 'Hunt' to remain eligible.

BIG DOG BUY-IN: This program give competitors the opportunity to take home an extra $2,000 at every USMTS points race. Each race during the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's Cup pays a minimum of $3,000 to win, but for drivers who pay an additional $100 when they register for the event, the winner's paycheck expands to $5,000. The bonus will be in effect whether just one driver takes part or every driver in the field joins the party.

USMTS returns to Cresco Labor Day Weekendw

CRESCO, Iowa (Aug. 12) - After a two-year hiatus, the United States Modified Touring Series will return to the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa, on Sunday, Sept. 1, for a pivotal race during the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's Cup.

The Cresco event replaces the previously scheduled Dodge County Speedway show, and will be the next-to-last points race in the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's Cup which concludes Sept. 19 during the first night of the Featherlite Fall Jamboree.

The Labor Day Weekend tilt will mark the 18th occasion that the lead-footed USMTS Modifieds have invaded the 4/10-mile clay oval at the Howard County Fairgrounds, and the first since Aug. 4, 2011, when Kelly Shryock notched his ninth career win at Cresco.

Mike Spaulding won the inaugural event here in 2002 while Alan Mondus won his first and only USMTS event at Cresco in 2006. Al Hejna and Jason Krohn each have two wins while Zack VanderBeek and Corey Dripps both have tasted victory once at Cresco.

Joining the stellar line-up will be the Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods. USRA Hobby Stock will round out the four-class program.

Pit gates open at 4:00, grandstands open at 4:30, hot laps begin at 6:00 and the first heat race gets the green flag at 6:30.

Grandstand admission is $17 for adults ages 18 and older, $10 for students ages 13-17 and kids ages 12 and under get in for free. Pit passes are $35.

Fans can save $2 on an adult grandstand ticket with a coupon available on race day at the Casey's General Store located at 601 2nd Ave. SW in Cresco. USMTS competitor Trevor Hunt and his Snickers-sponsored modified will be on hand for a meet 'n' greet with fans from 12-2 p.m.

The Howard County Fairgrounds campground features seasonal camping with water, electrical hook-ups and a sewer dumping station. The camping fee is $10 per night or $50 per week. Long term stays are available for discounted rate.
