Sanders triples at Cresco, clinches Farm Boy BBQ Sauce Northern Region crown
CRESCO, Iowa-Rodney Sanders put an exclamation point on his weekend Sunday with his third USMTS Casey's Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental win in a row and 52nd of his United States Modified Touring Series career.

After starting the swing off in the worst of ways five days ago with a crash in the opening laps of Wednesday's main event at the KRA Speedway in Willmar, Minn., the trip got progressively better for the 25-year-old from Happy, Texas, with a runner-up finish Thursday before reeling off three straight trips to the winner's circle on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The win-his first at the Cresco Speedway-was worth $3,000 to the two-time defending USMTS National Champion and brought his five-day take-home pay to more than $10,000.

From the outside of the front row, Cade Dillard left the field in his wake and appeared headed to his second victory of the season, but with less than 15 laps to go and a more-than-two-second lead, a broken upper A-arm slowed the Louisiana driver's march and Sanders blasted by as they completed lap 28.

Sanders paced the final 12 laps to the checkered flag ahead of a trio of Rookie of the Year contenders-Dan Ebert, Jesse Glenz and Jesse Sobbing-with Brent Larson rounding out the top five.

Zack VanderBeek came from the 12th starting spot to finish sixth while Dillard limped home in seventh. Sixteenth-starting Casey Arneson, polesitter Chris Oertel and Jacob Bleess completed the top ten.

With his fifth triumph in nine events in the Farm Boy BBQ Sauce Northern Region presented by Day Motor Sports, Sanders clinched the regional title with one race remaining in the region.

Going into Farm Boy BBQ Sauce Northern Region finale on Tuesday, July 21, at the Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, Sanders holds an insurmountable lead of 839 to 705 points over Ebert. Larson sits third with 693 markers, followed by VanderBeek (670), Sobbing (666), Glenz (654), Arneson (600), Joey Jensen (586), Cory Crapser (520) and Oertel (512).

Action heats back up on Wednesday and Thursday, June 17-18, for a pair of MSD Central Region shoot-outs at the Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., and 81 Speedway near Wichita, Kan.

The annual USMTS Southern Speedweek commences on Friday, June 19, at the Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas, for the first of seven events in nine days in the highly-competitive Double H Bands Southern Region.

With trips to the Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas, on June 22; Heart O' Texas Speedway near Waco, Texas, on June 23; Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, on June 24; Mountain Creek Speedway in Grand Prairie, Texas, on June 25; and Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla., on June 26; the swing through the south wraps up on Saturday, June 27, at the historic Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla.

Nearly $40,000 has been earmarked for the winners from an overall purse of more than $250,000 for events during the month of June.

Sanders sweeps The Maters at Cedar Lake Speedway
NEW RICHMOND, Wis.-Rodney Sanders made it a sweep of The Masters Saturday as the 25-year-old from Happy, Texas, scored his second $3,000 USMTS paycheck in as many nights at the Cedar Lake Speedway.

The win was the 51st in United States Modified Touring Series competition for the two-time defending USMTS National Champion, and gave him a solid cushion in the Farm Boy BBQ Sauce Northern Region presented by Day Motor Sports as he seeks his third title in 2015.

Unlike Friday night when Sanders led every lap and had to withstand the challenges behind him the whole race, the challenger was Sanders Saturday night.

Brent Larson fought off the attempts of Darrel Nelson for all but one of the first 33 laps (Nelson led lap 19), but he could not withstand the advances of Sanders who drive by on the bottom to lead the 34th lap and then go on to win by three car-lengths over Nelson, who followed past Larson one lap later.

g

Larson held on for third with Jason Miller and Joey Jensen scoring fourth- and fifth-place paychecks, respectively.

Zack VanderBeek was sixth, Eric Pember finished seventh, Joe Duvall nabbed the eighth spot, Craig Thatcher claimed ninth and Jacob Bleess rounded out the top ten.

The 13th Annual Stars & Stripes Shootout-which was rained out Memorial Day Weekend at the Upper Iowa Speedway-will take place at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa, on Sunday.

Hot laps start at 6 p.m. with racing to follow.

The event will also put the spotlight on the Holley Iron Man Series featuring USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods plus USRA Hobby Stocks will also be in action at the Mighty Howard County Fairgrounds.

The Cresco Speedway is a high-banked 4/10-mile clay oval located 0.2 miles north of SR 9 on SW 7th (at the Howard County Fairgrounds). For more information call 563-547-3400.

Sanders scores 50th USMTS victory on opening night at The Masters
NEW RICHMOND, Wis.-Rodney Sanders captured his 50th career United States Modified Touring Series victory Friday night as the USMTS Casey's Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental invaded the Cedar Lake Speedway for round 1 of The Masters.

Although the two-time defending USMTS National Champion from Happy, Texas, led every lap of the race, he was never more than two car-lengths ahead of his challengers.

USMTS Rookie of the Year points leader Jesse Sobbing challenged the 25-year-old for the first five laps until Cade Dillard snuck past and began to pressure the leader.

Sobbing regained the second spot ten laps later and chased Sanders to the white flag when Joey Jensen made a bold move to secure the runner-up spot by a bumper over Sobbing, who settled for a third-place paycheck.

Dillard held on for a fourth-place finish with Craig Thatcher finishing fifth to register his third top-five finish in as many nights.

Cory Crapser, Matt Leer, Dan Ebert, Zack VanderBeek and Brent Larson completed the top ten.

The second night of The Masters continues at the Cedar Lake Speedway on Saturday with another $3,000-to-win main event for the USMTS road warriors.

Grandstands open at 4 p.m. and race time is 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $30, kids ages 6-16 are $15 and children ages 5 and under are free.

The Cedar Lake Speedway is a high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval located 1.0 mile east of SR 35 on SR 64 (in Somerset), then 4.2 miles north on CR C to CR CC, then left 1.8 miles. For more information call 715-248-7119 or check out www.cedarlakespeedway.com online.

13th Annual Stars & Stripes Shootout-which was rained out Memorial Day Weekend at the Upper Iowa Speedway-will take place at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa, on Sunday.
