Dillard undeniable at 81 Speedway

PARK CITY, Kan. (June 9) -- Cade Dillard raced to his third USMTS victory of the season Thursday night at the 81 Speedway, showing the rest of the 41-car field the fastest way around the 3/8-mile clay oval from start to finish.

After recording the quickest lap of the night during his heat race win, the 25-year-old from Robeline, La., drew the pole for the 42-lap main event and never looked back once the green flag appeared.

While Dillard set the pace the entire distance, the battles for positions behind him were fierce.

Two-time USMTS national champ Ryan Gustin blazed through the field from his 13th starting spot and was running down the leader when the yellow flag waved on lap 29.

Gustin stayed close after the restart, but Dillard never offered up a mistake to allow him an opportunity to get by.

Jesse Sobbing, who gave up the second spot to Gustin during the 25th lap, regained the position with six laps remaining and held on for the runner-up paycheck behind Dillard's $3,000 triumph.

Zack VanderBeek, Gustin and Jeremy Payne-all three former winners at the 81 Speedway-finished third, fourth and fifth after starting the race from 12th, 13th and 14th on the grid, respectively.

Dereck Ramirez, Kenny Sweet, 15th-starting Mike Jergens, Ryan McAninch and multi-time NCRA champion Brian Franz, who started 27th, rounded out the top 10.

The fire-breathing USMTS speed freaks will be in action Friday and Saturday at the Longdale Speedway, which boasts 22-degree-tall straight-aways and 26 degrees of banking in the turns at the three-year-old facility in Longdale, Okla.

Originally slated to be $2,000 and $3,000-to-win shows, Friday's feature will be worth $3,000 to the winner while Saturday's main event will carry a $4,000 top prize thanks to a boost from Rancho Milagro in Taos, N.M.

Stormy Scott christened the new joint with a victory over a 42-car field in 2014, and his twin brother, Johnny Scott, was the winner when the series visited the facility last year.

Saturday's $4,000-to-win clash will be held in memory of Alyssa Ramirez, who lost her life in a tragic car accident near Woodward, Okla., on Jan. 29.

Pit gates will open at 4 p.m. with grandstands opening at 5:30, hot laps at 6:30 and opening ceremonies at 7:30 with heat races immediately following. Also on the card are IMCA Mods and Sport Mods.

Adult grandstand tickets are $15, seniors and military with ID are $12 and kids ages 6-12 get in for $5. Children 5 and under are admitted free of charge. Pit passes are $35.

The Longdale Speedway is located about 0.5 mile south of Longdale on SR 58. For more information, check out www.longdalespeedway.com or call 580-886-5375.
