USMTS fired up for debut at Devil’s Bowl Speedway June 20

MESQUITE, Texas (June 4) – After 14 seasons and more than 800 events, the United States Modified Touring Series has been to more than 100 of the finest dirt tracks throughout the Great Plains from the Mexican to Canadian border.

Race fans from border to border have enjoyed the USMTS Modifieds at most of the marquee facilities that lie between the Mississippi River and Rocky Mountains, but one piece of the puzzle has been missing … until now.

By popular demand, the track that hosted the first-ever World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series race in 1978 will shine the spotlight on America’s Premier Dirt Modified Series as the USMTS Casey’s Cup Series makes its debut at the legendary Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, on Tuesday, June 25.

“We’ve spoken with promoter Lanny Edwards a few times in past seasons, but our schedules always got filled up and we just never got anything set up,” said USMTS President Todd Staley. “Fans have been asking for a race here for years. I’m not worried about the drivers, they will put on a great show. We just hope that Mother Nature will assist us in giving the fans what they’ve been asking for.”

The Devil’s Bowl Speedway is a high-banked, D-shaped half-mile dirt oval located 3.2 miles south of US 80 on Lawson Rd. The track opened in 1949 in Dallas behind the Buckner Boulevard drive-in theater before moving to its current location in Mesquite in 1968.

Lanny and Beverly Edwards took over track ownership in 1972, and the Hall of Fame promoters are celebrating their 40th year of promoting the famous facility in 2013.

The event will be sandwiched between eight other events that will take place over a nine-day stretch. A top prize of $2,000 is earmarked for the winner, or $4,000 to win for drivers participating in the Big Dog Buy-In. Points will be awarded in the Allgayer, Inc. Southern Region presented by Day Motor Sports.

Limited Mods will also be on the racing card.
