No racin’ in Mason City; Mother rains on USMTS parade


MASON CITY, Iowa (May 22) – Four inches of rain this past Sunday was almost too much, but more rain today couple with a promise of continuing misting, cool temperatures and strong winds has forced event organizers to postpone Wednesday’s USMTS Casey’s Cup Series event at the I-35 Speedway.

The annual event at the North Iowa Fairgrounds in mason City, Iowa, will now be held on Tuesday, June 11.

“Mother Nature must be a big USMTS fan … she’s show up at plenty of our races this year,” said USMTS president Todd Staley. “There’s nothing we can do about it but wish for better racing weather. The forecast looks good for the rest of the week, so we’ll carry on at Fairmont Thursday.”

The mud-slinging machines of the United States Modified Touring Series will venture to the Fairmont Raceway in Fairmont, Minn., on Thursday, May 23, for the 6th Annual USMTS Spring Spectacular presented by JH Larson Events and Buckey's Sales.

Gates open at 5:30 with hot laps at 7:00 and racing to follow. Also on the racing card will be the Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods presented by Bud Light.

On race day, fans can pick up a discount card good for $2 off adult admission at both Casey’s General Stores locations in Fairmont.

The Fairmont Raceway is a high-banked half-mile dirt oval located 1.0 mile south of I-90 (exit 99) on CR 39 (at the Martin County Fairgrounds). for more information call 507-382-4531 or surf on over to www.fairmontraceway.com.

Head east on I-90 on Friday and you'll find the mighty USMTS Modifieds circling the Chateau Raceway in Lansing, Minn., for the 6th Annual Mike Guttormson Memorial presented by Tiny’s Body Shop and Powder Werks.

Gates are scheduled to open at 5:30 with hot laps at 7:00 and racing to follow. Also on the card will be USRA B-Mods, WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and Pure Stocks.

On race day, fans can pick up a discount card good for $2 off adult admission at Casey’s General Stores locations in Austin and Blooming Prairie.

The Chateau Raceway is a semi-banked one-third-mile gumbo clay oval located 5.0 miles north of Austin on US 218 (Lansing Exit), then 1.3 miles east on CR 2, then 0.4 mile south on CR 25, then 0.3 mile east on 266th St. For more information call 507-391-2486 or check out www.chateauraceway.net online.

The fourth and final night happens Saturday, May 25, with the first visit this season to the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., for the 11th Annual A&A Electric and Underground Spring Challenge.

Also on the racing card will be the Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods. Gates open at 3:00 with racing at 6:00.
