Scott goes back for seconds, scoops up USMTS loot at Southern Oklahoma Speedway

ARDMORE, Okla. (April 27) – Johnny Scott must have liked the taste of victory Friday because he went back for seconds on Saturday and gobbled up the competition at the Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla.

After a stint in Kennedale, Texas, the night before, Scott and the rest of the tireless touring titans of the United States Modified Touring Series crossed the border and into the Sooner State for the third and final round of the 4s Motorsports Red River Rumble powered by Lecolift.

Just like Friday evening, Scott again had a tough draw in his heat race but battled his way to a runner-up finish and a spot in the redraw among the program’s top 8 qualifiers.

This time, however, his draw for the main event was a complete turn-around and the 23-year-old from Las Cruces, N.M., found himself on the pole for the 40-lap contest around the 3/8-mile clay oval.

Scott immediately took control at the drop of the green flag and never looked back en route to a second straight $4,000 payday and his 16th career USMTS triumph.

Zack VanderBeek shrugged off a lackluster result on Friday night and rebounded for his best result of the 2013 campaign with a runner-up paycheck while the winner’s older twin brother, Stormy Scott, placed third.

Chris Brown finished fourth and Rodney Sanders kept his lead in the Allgayer, Inc. Southern Region points standings with a fifth-place finish after starting 15th on the 26-car grid.

Sixth through tenth were Kelly Shryock, rookie contender Joey Galloway, Tristan Dycus, Daniel Hilsabeck and Bobby Malchus. Dycus, who passed 14 competitors in the feature, earned the Mesilla Valley Transportation Hard Charger Award.

The next event on the USMTS calendar is Thursday, May 16, at the Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Mo., where fans are hoping the third time’s the charm after two weather-related postponements in March and April.

Friday, May 17, will find the USMTS Modifieds at the LA Raceway in La Monte, Mo., and then at the West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, Mo., on Saturday, May 18, to round out the Arbor Masters Central Region presented by Day Motor Sports tripleheader.
