USMTS Texas tripleheader tips off Thursday

GREENVILLE, Texas (April 27) -- The United States Modified Touring Series returns to the Lone Star State this week for a tripleheader of $3,000-to-win contests in the Production Jars Southern Region presented by Day Motor Sports.

On Thursday, April 28, the series invades the Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, for the 2nd Annual North Texas Nationals.

The last trip to the semi-banked quarter-mile dirt oval on June 27, 2014, saw Stormy Scott take the feature win, following in the footsteps of his twin brother, Johnny Scott, who topped the series debut three months earlier on March 20, 2014.

Spectator tickets are $20, kids ages 6-12 are $5 and children 5 and under get in for free. Pit passes are $35. The pit gate opens at 3 p.m., grandstands open at 5, hot laps begin at 7 and racing starts at 7:30.

Also running will be Limited Mods and Factory Stocks each battling for $500 to win.

The Superbowl Speedway is located 5.0 miles south of Greenville on SR 34, then west on FM 1903. For more information, call (903) 883-2504 or check out www.superbowlspeedway.com online.

Friday, April 29, finds the fire-breathing USMTS fighter pilots at the Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas, where both previous visits during the 2013 campaign were won by Johnny Scott.

Spectator tickets are $20, kids ages 6-12 are $5 and children 5 and under get in for free. Pit passes are $35. The pit gate opens at 3 p.m., grandstands open at 5, hot laps begin at 7 and racing starts at 7:30.

Joining the USMTS on the card will be Limited Mods and Factory Stocks with a top prize of $500 for feature winners in both classes.

The Kennedale Speedway Park is a semi-banked quarter-mile dirt oval located off of I-20 at exit 442-A, then 1.7 miles southeast on Mansfield Hwy., then 1.6 miles southwest on New Hope Rd., then 0.3 mile east on Hudson Village Creek Rd. For more information, call (817) 988-7433 or (817) 478-7223 or visit them online at www.raceksp.com.

The swing wraps up Saturday, April 30, with the 3rd Annual "Uproar in Kilgore" at the Lonestar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas.

A common thread in all three events this weekend, Johnny Scott is a past winner here, tackling the first USMTS race at the Lonestar Speedway on June 12, 2010-the first of his 27 career USMTS victories. Ryan Gustin captured the checkers the following year on March 26, 2011, en route to his first of two straight USMTS National Championships.

This is the first USMTS event at the Lonestar Speedway in five years (the past two were rained out), and the first time the USMTS Casey's Cup Series powered by S&S Fishing & Rental will compete on the wide, high-banked 1/3-mile oval configuration. It was a big 3/8-mile oval when Scott and Gustin got their wins.

In addition to the $3,000-to-win USMTS event, a complete program of Limited Modifieds ($750 to win), Factory Stocks ($500 to win) and 4-Cylinders will compete with heats and features.

Hot laps are scheduled for 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Pit gates open by 3 and the grandstand entrance opens at 5. General admission is just $17, kids ages 6-11 are $5 and children 5 and under are free. Active military with I.D. and seniors 65 and older get in for $15. Fans may upgrade any ticket to the reserved section bucket seats for $5 per person. Pit passes for all ages are $35.

The Lonestar Speedway is located off I-20 at exit 583, then 0.5 mile north on SR 135, then 1.0 mile east on FM 1252, then 0.5 mile south. For more information, call (903) 986-9731 or go to www.lonestarspeedway.com on the World Wide Web.
