USMTS kicks off "March Madness" this weekend at Humboldt, West Siloam Speedways

HUMBOLDT, Kan. -- The United States Modified Touring Series will kick off "March Madness" this Friday through Sunday, March 14-16, with a tripleheader of action that is sure to be a slam dunk for race-hungry fans in America's heartland.

The 3/8-mile clay oval in Humboldt, Kan., will host the 9th Annual Spring Fling @ The Bullring to launch the USMTS Major League Bowhunter Central Region presented by Day Motor Sports on Friday and Saturday with the USMTS Modifieds being joined by the Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods each day.

On Friday, gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps begin at 7 and racing starts at 7:30. All start times are one half-hour earlier on Saturday with the first green flag waving at 7 p.m.

The tireless touring titans of the USMTS Casey's Cup powered by Swan Energy will wrap up the weekend with the first of two visits this season to the West Siloam Speedway near Colcord, Okla., where Stormy and Johnny Scott waged a battle for the ages last year.

After a successful month of February that saw him notch four wins in ten days to earn the MVT Gulf Coast Border Region title, Stormy Scott enters Thursday's event as the hottest driver on dirt ... and the only one with a chance at a $100,000 payoff in a little more than six months.

With one regional title in the bag, he will pocket a record $100,000 from the USMTS if he can win the three remaining regional crowns and go on to capture the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's National Championship powered by Swan Energy.

But dozens of others are dead set on spoiling Scott's superb payday.

Defending USMTS national champion Rodney Sanders of Happy, Texas, finished second to Scott in last month's regional points battle and will be looking to score his first win of the season and get his own slice of the pie this month.

Nothing would make the younger twin, Johnny Scott, happier than to get in on the action, and with two convincing wins in the last five races he is sure to make some noise during the month of March.

Other drivers expected to challenge for the checkers this weekend include Johnny Scott's teammate, Dereck Ramirez, Rick Beebe, Daniel Hilsabeck, Bryan Rowland, nine-time USMTS national champ Kelly Shryock, Joe Duvall, Zack VanderBeek, Jeremy Payne and many others, including Sunflower State speedsters such as John Allen and Darron Fuqua.

Next week, the series heads south again for the opening three rounds in the S&S Fishing & Rental Southern Region presented by Day Motor Sports, March 20-22. Thursday's action will take place at the Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, and Friday night will find the fearless USMTS flyers elbows up at the Timberline Speedway in Corley, Texas, before wrapping up on Saturday at the Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, La.

Everything comes full circle when the USMTS and USRA co-sanction the $10,000-to-win King of America IV Modified Nationals, March 27-29, back at the Humboldt Speedway.
