USMTS Modifieds set for long-awaited debut at RPM Speedway

CRANDALL, Texas (March 6) – The long-awaited debut of the USMTS Modifieds at the RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, is less than 10 days away as the tireless touring USMTS titans will invade the 1/4-mile semi-banked dirt oval next Friday, March 15, for the first time in the 15-year history of the United States Modified Touring Series.

Fans were forced to wait an entire year for the series debut as the inaugural event was rained out last year just as the team haulers were filling the pit area.

Long-time Dallas-Fort Worth businessman and racer Jason Troutman acquired the facility in November, and since then the track has seen several improvements including a newly-configured racing surface that drew rave reviews during the track’s grand opening event two weeks ago.

The inaugural Honeycutt Sand & Gravel Modified Nationals at the RPM Speedway will be the season’s third event in the tough USMTS Allgayer Inc. Southern Region presented by Day Motor Sports. A top prize of $2,000 awaits the winner of the event, with the opportunity for the winning driver to double that amount by taking part in the Big Dog Buy-In.

For an additional $100 entry fee at the time of registration. Those drivers who “buy in” will race for an extra $2,000 to win.

Among the combatants expected for this blockbuster event are the three winningest drivers in USMTS history: nine-time USMTS national champion Kelly Shryock, 2010 titlist Jason Hughes and two-time defending national champ Ryan Gustin. Gustin is the current points leader in the region after the first two events.

Others expected to challenge for a visit to victory lane are Johnny Scott, Zack VanderBeek, Rodney Sanders, Jason Krohn, Jeremy Payne, Clyde Dunn Jr., Rick Beebe, Thomas Tillison Jr., Willy Kraft, Steve Whiteaker Jr., Philip Houston, Randy Timms, Austin Siebert, Howard Willis, Chris Brown, Logan Martin, Trevor Hunt, Casey Penn, John O Whittington, Jamie Burford, Cody Simpson, Shane Hebert, Cade Dillard, Kyle Cummings, Dereck Ramirez, J.P. Dowell, Tracy Denby Jr., Gene Nicholas, T.J. Steele, Steve Miller, Phil Dixon, Masen Big Eagle, Jeff Allgayer, Joey Galloway, Larry Clevenger, Adam Penn and many others.

With the tough competition every week in the USRA Modified division at the RPM Speedway, fans have a better-than-normal chance of seeing a regular take home the bacon. Grand Re-Opening Blowout winner Bobby Malchus, Wayne Melton, Cody Smith, Charlie Smith, Scotty Brown, Bobby Ruffin, Josh Landers, Johnny Philpot, Mickey Lassiter, Benji Kirkpatrick, Lee McCullough, Steven Purcell, Billy Burt, Michael Needham, Elliott Davis, Brandon Houk, Jack Sartain, Scooter Stephens, Steve McMakin and Jack Franklin are some of the names expected to defend their home turf from the USMTS invaders.

The pit gate opens at 4 p.m. and the grandstand gates swing open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are slated for 6:45 with the first green flag scheduled to unfurl at 7:30 p.m. Adults grandstand tickets are just $17, seniors ages 65 and older get in for $15, kids ages 6-12 are $5 and children 5 & under are free. Pit passes are $35.

Joining the high powered Modifieds will be a RPM points night for three racing divisions and will pay $750/win for Limited Mods, and $500 each to win for Factory Stocks & Street Stocks. The draw cut-off for RPM points drivers it 7pm sharp.
