USMTS treks to El Paso for inaugural 'Ice Breaker' Feb. 21-22

EL PASO, Texas (Feb. 19) -- After five nights of racing action on the eastern border of Texas, the traveling band of mud-slinging modifieds of the USMTS Casey's Cup powered by Swan Energy trek to the other side of the Lone Star State this weekend for a doubleheader at the El Paso Speedway Park.

This will be the first-ever journey for the United States Modified Touring Series to El Paso, but the track hosts the similar USRA Modifieds during their weekly Friday night programs throughout the year, as well as some well-attended special events that routinely draw the best open-wheel dirt modified aces on the planet.

As if he needed an advantage, Stormy Scott returns to his former stomping grounds with two wins under his belt already and the points lead in the MVT Gulf Coast Border Region presented by Day Motor Sports.

With five events in the books and five to go in the $5,000-to-win regional championship fight, Scott holds a 42-point lead over defending USMTS national champion Rodney Sanders while Sanders' teammate, Jason Krohn, sits third in the standings.

Johnny Scott is currently fourth, followed by Zack VanderBeek who is back at home in Iowa and will not be making the trip to El Paso. Jeremy Payne, Cade Dillard, Rick Beebe, Jacob Gallardo and Dereck Ramirez round out the top 10.

The two-day 'Ice Breaker' will pay $2,000 to win Friday and $3,000 to win Saturday. An open practice is scheduled for Thursday night with gates opening at 3 p.m. and practice beginning at 6 p.m. Pit passes are $20.

USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods and Legends Cars will also be in action both days. Gates open at 3 p.m. with racing at 6:30 both days. Adult admission is $12 Friday and $15 Saturday. Kids ages 10 and under get in for free and pit passes are $40 both days.

For those unfortunate souls unable to attend this weekend's clash, both nights will be carried live online via pay-per-view. Visit www.RacinDirt.tv for ordering information.
