COMP Cams, USMTS partner for eighth straight season

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-For the eighth straight year, COMP Cams®-the absolute leader in valve train technology-will add additional horsepower to the points fund and year-end awards program for the drivers and engine builders who compete in the United States Modified Touring Series.

As the Official Cam of the USMTS, COMP Cams® will return as sponsor of the USMTS Engine Builder of the Year Award, and the company has also padded their awards program as well as their contribution to the regional and national points funds for the USMTS.

"COMP Cams® and the USMTS are both committed to the long-term vitality and success of the machine shop owners, enthusiasts and home-grown engine builders that power the engine of short track racing," said USMTS President Todd Staley. "Once again, we are honored to continue our partnership with COMP Cams® and look forward to moving our sport forward together for many years to come."

As part of their contingency award program for the 2015 racing season, COMP Cams® will provide USMTS competitors and engine builders with year-end product awards worth more than $4,000. The company will also provide a one-of-a-kind trophy to the COMP Cams® Engine Builder of the Year at the season-ending awards banquet plus a $500 cash award.

The COMP Cams® Engine Builder of the Year Award was launched at the start of the 2008 season to recognize the masters of the horsepower-making craft whose dedication, hard work and unparalleled expertise propel the mud-slinging modifieds of the USMTS around America's finest dirt ovals.

Five years after winning back-to-back titles during the first two years of the program, Sput's Racing Engines of Owatonna, Minn., emerged as the COMP Cams® Engine Builder of the Year for the third time in 2014.

On the strength of eight wins and a consistent presence by drivers such as Zack VanderBeek and Lucas Schott, Sput's Racing Engines came out ahead of Geddes Racing Engines of Colorado Springs, Colo., after a back-and-forth campaign that saw multiple changes in the top spot of the rankings.

Last year's COMP Cams® EBotY recipient, Pro Power Racing of Sullivan, Wis., wound up third in the final standings with three-time (2010-12) winner Mullins Race Engines of Mt. Olive, Ill., fourth and Lubbock, Texas, engine builder ASI Racing Engines finishing fifth.

In all, 137 different engine builders scored points in the COMP Cams® Engine Builder of the Year competition.
