Eric Riggins, Jr. races to USCS vs. URC North vs. South Shootout win at Carolina Speedway on Friday Gastonia, NC – October 4, 2013 – USCS young gun and 2010 Southern Thunder regional series Rookie of the Year, Eric Riggins, Jr. from Charlotte, North Carolina raced into the www.rockauto.com USCS victory lane at Carolina Speedway in the 5th annual USCS Carolina Thunder Nationals Round #1 and USCS vs. URC North vs. South Shootout on Friday night. Riggins took the lead from early race leader and 2012 event Champion Johnny Bridges from Cherryville, North Carolina on lap eleven, then, led the final nineteen laps of the contest to win the 30-lap contest. It was Riggins’ fourth career United Sprint Car Series feature win and second win of the season and third total at the track he would consider his home track. Josh Weller from Merztown, Pennsylvania who came into the event in the second position in the URC (United Racing Corp.) point standings charged across the finish line in the runner-up spot. Current URC point’s leader, J.J. Grasso from Middletown, Delaware followed in the K&N Filter Podium Award third place. Frenchtown, New Jersey, sprint car veteran Billy Pauch, Jr. finished in fourth place. The evening’s B-Main winner and the only female driver in the field, Morgan Turpen from Cordova, Tennessee charged from fifteenth starting position to round out the top five drivers. Jonathan Swanson from Yardvville, New Jwesey led the next group of drivers in sixth place. Keith Prutzman from Hamburg, Pennsylvania finished in seventh place followed by ten-time USCS National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee in eighth place. Troy Betts from Newark, Delaware followed in ninth place and Dan Mazy from Lyons, Pennsylvania rounded out the top ten finishers. USCS National point’s leader, Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas kicked of the evening’s action by winning the Hoosier Speed Dash. Eric Riggins won the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. J.J. Grasso won the Butlerbuilt Second Heat. Billy Pauch, Jr. won the www.rockauto.com Third Heat and Chandler Leiby won the Schoenfeld Headers Fourth Heat Race. Morgan Turpen got the victory in the 12-lap KSE Racing Products B-Main contest. After the high passing points earner Eric Riggins drew a four in the K&N Filters Pole drawing, former USCS Southern Thunder regional series Champion Johnny Bridges garnered the K&N Filters Pole Award. Morgan Turpen who started 15th in the main event advanced the most positions (10 places) to earn the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hardcharger Award.
