Nicholson races to redemption in USCS by K&N Filters at Tri County Racetrack
                                                                   
BRASSTOWN, N.C. - September 1, 2014 - Anthony Nicholson, the 2008 USCS Rookie of the Year from Bartlett, Tennessee, stormed around the outside of K&N Filters pole-sitter Michael Miller on the opening lap of Monday night’s 30-lap “Thunder in the Mountains” Labor Day Classic A-main and never looked back, wiring the field en route to his fourth USCS victory of 2014 at Ray Cook’s Tri County Race Track. The win was Nicholson’s eighth career USCS feature win and fourth of the 2014 season.

The victory also redeemed Nicholson for being passed by 10-time series National Champion Terry Gray at the same race track where he lost the battle inside of four laps to go seeking his first series win during his rookie year in 2008. Nicholson has now doubled his career series win total this season from four to eight.

“This is a little bit of redemption,” Nicholson said in www.rockauto.com USCS Victory Lane. “When I got out front there on the start I wasn’t letting anyone back past me tonight. We rebuilt the entire front end of this car last night and this shows how hard my dad and the crew worked because we’re sitting here celebrating right now.”

The pace was slowed by three cautions; the first coming out on lap 2 when Brandon McLain spun in turn 3.
The second caution changed the complexity of the race, shuffling the running order when Morgan Turpen and Michael Miller were battling for the runner-up spot and got together on the front stretch. Turpen slowed to a crawl and retired from the race due to the bleeder and shock on her right rear wheel being knocked off in the fray, while Miller retired following the restart.

The final caution flew on lap 12 when Jeff Willingham looped his car around in turn 4, setting up one last chance for the field to take the fight to Nicholson, but ten-time series champion Gray said this time, he had nothing left to get past Nicholson.

“That was all I had right there,” Gray said following the race. “Anthony did a good job tonight, he drove hard and earned this one. We’ll take a runner-up after the weekend we’ve had and go on to the next one.”

Saturday night’s Harris Speedway winner Eric Riggins Jr., from Charlotte, North Carolina completed the podium in third. Jacksonville, Florida pilot Terry Witherspoon and Thonotosassa, Florida young gun Collin Cabre got his second top five finish  in two nights finishing in fifth place.

Fifteen year-old Nick Snyder, a sprint car rookie from Marco Island, Florida finished a career-best sixth, to lead the next group of racers. Brandon McLain from Indian Trail, North Carolina followed Snyder in seventh place. Jeff Willingham finished in eight place with Kent Wolters from Pipp City, Ohio just behind in the ninth position. Michael Miller was scored in the tenth position.

Terry Gray kicked off the evening’s racing action by winning the Hoosier Tire Speed Dash, and followed that up with a win in the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. Morgan Turpen rolled to the victory in the Butlerbuilt Second Heat.

Michael Miller was the provisional pole-starter after scoring the most passing points in heat race action, and after a zero came up in the K&N Inversion Draw, he received the K&N Filters Pole Award and the prime starting position.  Rookie driver Nick Snyder passed the most cars in the A-main (six) to grab the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger Award.

The United Sprint Car Series filtercharged by K&N continues their 2014 schedule on Saturday, September 13th at Tennessee National Raceway in Hohenwald, Tennessee with the running of the Tennessee Fall Nationals.

Michael Miller charges to USCS Sunday of Speed win at Toccoa Speedway

TOCCOA, Ga. – Sunday, August 31, 2014 - 2000 United Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters Rookie of the Year, Michael “Hollywood” Miller, from Ocean Springs, Mississippi blew past K&N Filters Pole Position starter Collin Cabre from Thonotosassa, Florida on the opening lap of the “Sunday of Speed” 30-lap A-main at Toccoa Speedway on Sunday night then dominated the event while surviving two late race re-starts for the win. The win was Miller’s career-fourth USCS feature win and his first since he won the prestigious Randy Helton Memorial at East Alabama Motor Speedway.

“Priceless,” a near-speechless Miller said in www.rockauto.com USCS Victory Lane. “It kind of blows me away, how good this car was tonight. We struggled a little bit early, but buckled down at the trailer and you know, I wasn’t real wound up like I normally am,” Miller laughed. “I wasn’t real pumped up and going, going, going but I kept thinking about the top! Anyone that has seen me race knows that’s where I like to run and it paid off tonight.”

Two caution periods inside the final ten laps changed the course of the event after the first 20 circuits were run under green. The first caution flew at lap 20 when Brandon McLain spun in turn two and simultaneously, second-running Eric Riggins Jr. came to a stop in turn four after breaking a power steering line.

After the restart was when things would get dicey, however. With traffic brewing again, the lapped machine of Kris Davis spun in front of the front-runners with four laps to go in turn four. Anthony Nicholson who was in the runner-up spot, had nowhere to go and spun into the No. 121 car of Davis, with third and fifth-place Terry Gray and Morgan Turpen piling in as well. Gray got air-time after jumping the wheel of one of the stopped cars and Turpen received top wing damage after she drove underneath her teammate in the fray. In a testament to the safety of the cars, all drivers walked away, and Gray was remarkably able to continue in the event.

Nicholson and Turpen were credited with eleventh and twelfth, respectively, after they were unable to continue following the turn 4 melee that brought out the red flag. None of the remaining cars were any match for Miller however, who drove away on the restart and collected the victor’s hardware for his efforts.

Young gun Collin Cabre ended the night with his best career USCS finish in second place, and fellow Floridian Terry Witherspoon, from Jacksonville, scored a season-best third place run to collect the K&N Filters Podium Award. Ten-time series champion Gray, who flipped in his heat race as well, started 16th and charged to a remarkable fourth place finish and 2012 USCS Rookie of the Year, Jeff Willingham, from Ripley, Mississippi, had a resurgent night finishing fifth, his second USCS top-five this season.

Brandon McLain, from Indian Trail, North Carolina, finished in sixth place. Active-duty Army veteran Clint Weiss from Jesup, Georia crossed the twin checkers in seventh and Pendergrass, Georgia’s Brian Thomas was eighth. Former Carolina Racesaver sprint car champion Johnny Petrozelle from Lexington, North Carolina ended the night in ninth place, and 15-year-old 2013 Florida Mini Sprints Champion and rookie sprint car driver Nick Snyder from Marco sland, Florida completed the top ten.
