JoJo Helberg races to career-first USCS win in the Tim Smith’s CLIMAX Moonshine Sprint Car Shootout at Atlanta Motor Speedway                                                         

Hampton, GA - Friday, August 30, 2013 – Top ranked pavement open wheel ace JoJo Helberg from Santa Rosa, California broke a two race streak of bad luck that cost him the Championship in another racing series and raced into victory lane at Atlanta Motor Speedway as the Champion of the United Sprint Car Series sanctioned 50-lap Tim Smith’s CLIMAX Moonshine Sprint Car Shootout. The victory didn’t come easy for the 23 year-old driver who started third on the grid, as he chased veteran pavement hot-shoe and K&N Filters Pole Position starter and Biobased.US Fast Qualifier Brian Gingras from Lakeland, Florida for the first forty-five laps before making the winning pass when the leader (Gingras) encountered a group of lapped cars. Helberg then raced the final five laps into the www.rockauto.com USCS victory lane at Atlanta Motor Speedway to accept the trophy from Moonshiner’s TV series star Tim Smith.

Gingras who raced to a career-first United Sprint Car Series win at Watermelon Capital Speedway on July 20th crossed the finish line just behind Helberg in the runner-up spot. USCS current National point’s leader and nine-time 2013 feature winner 22 year-old Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas finished in the K&N Filters Podium Award third place in his dirt car that he has driven to the series leading nine wins. Michael Miller from Ocean Springs, Mississippi who was also in the same dirt sprint car he leads the point standings in the Southern Outlaw Sprints series standings in followed Hagar in fourth place after 50 laps. Another top ranked pavement sprint car racer, Troy DeCaire from Wesley Chapel, Florida rounded out the top five drivers.

Ten-time USCS National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee led the next group of finishers in sixth place. The only female racer in the field, 20 year-old Morgan Turpen from Cordova, Tennessee chased the those six drivers across the finish line in seventh place. Dirt track and pavement veteran racer, Todd Fayard from Saucier, Mississippi followed in eighth place. 15 year-old Anderson Speedway 2013 Little 500 Rookie of the Year finished in ninth place and USCS young gun Anthony Nicholson from Bartlett, Tennessee who ranks fourth in the current USCS National point standings completed out the top ten.

Brian Gingras claimed the Biobased.US fastest time award posted by company owner Don Wilshe with an all time track record lap of 13.70 seconds around the flat ΒΌ mile paved oval. Morgan Turpen then won the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat race. Turpen’s team-mate, Terry Gray completed the qualifying sessions by winning the Butlerbuilt Second Heat. Gingras was then awarded the K&N Filters Pole Award after first heat winner Turpen drew a four in the zero-four or six K&N Filters Pole Award drawing. drew a four in the K&N Filters Pole Award inversion drawling. The United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour next event is on Saturday, August 31st at Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, Tennessee. On the following night the series completes the Labor Day weekend at Toccoa Speedway in Toccoa, Georgia. Both of those tracks are dirt ovals.
