Hagar wins duel for USCS Clayhill Clash Cash on Saturday

ATWOOD, TN – August 16, 2014 - On Saturday night at Clayhill Motorsports, the Derek Hagar and Tim Crawley Show in United Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters competition continued. Hagar, the defending USCS champion from Marion, Arkansas, started seventh but quickly marched forward, snatching the lead from K&N Filters Pole Position starter Morgan Turpen from Cordova, Tennessee on lap 5 of the 9th annual “Clayhill Clash”  30-lap A-main and never looked back from there en route to the  www.rockauto.com USCS Victory Lane. Hagar had to hold off 2012 USCS National sprint car champion Tim Crawley, from Benton, Arkansas in a fierce wheel-to-wheel duel over the closing laps the for the $2000 payday and his seventh USCS victory of the 2014 season.

The victory lane stop was his first since mid-June at East Alabama Motor Speedway in the annual Randy Helton Memorial. The victory was also Hagar’s 28th career USCS feature win, which is fourth on the all-time list behind only Tim Crawley, Terry Gray and Kenny Adams.

The race featured three lead changes in the opening five laps, with Terry Gray snatching the lead from female sprint car  driver and team-mate Morgan Turpen on the opening lap before Turpen re-gained the top spot one lap later. Turpen charger to nearly a straight-away lead before Gray flipped to bring out the race’s first caution/red flag of the race on lap 4. Hagar surged from third to first to grab the lead on the re-start and from there, the die was cast.

Crawley, from Benton, Arkansas, got by Turpen near the mid-point of the race and chased Hagar to the finish line in second. Marshall Skinner, also a Marion, Arkansas native, rounded out the podium in third. Morgan Turpen came home in fourth and California, Missouri’s Tyler Blank completed the top five.

Hernando, Mississippi top gun Jerod Roller finished in sixth and West Memphis veteran A.G. Rains crossed the checkered flag in seventh. Millington, Tennessee young gun Dalton Davis had a solid night to come home eighth and Ernie Ainsworth, out of Bartlett, Tennessee ended the night in ninth. Ainsworth was follow by Justin Webb, from Drummonds, Tennessee who completed the top ten.

10-time series Champion Terry Gray kicked off the evening’s racing action by winning the Hoosier Tire Speed Dash, and followed that up with a win in the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. Morgan Turpen rolled to the victory in the Butlerbuilt Second Heat, and A.G. Rains netted the Schoenfeld Headers Third Heat win.

Tim Crawley was the provisional pole-sitter after scoring the most passing points in heat race action, but after a four came up in the K&N Filters Pole Award/Inversion Draw, Morgan Turpen received the K&N Filters Pole Award.  Hagar passed the most cars in the A-main (six) to grab the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger Award.

United Sprint Car Series founder and President, Pete Walton said, ”We are very excited about this opportunity for our drivers and race teams to be a part of this major racing event for the second year in a row. A number of drivers in NASCAR’s top divisions have excelled in sprint car racing previously. It will be an honor for the USCS to be racing in front of them again this year after a successful event last year. It was really exciting to be entertaining all of the great fans (30,000+) at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Labor Day weekend. Fans who weren’t here ;ast year and who have never seen this type of racing are in store for an exciting evening on Friday, August 29th at AMS,” concluded Walton.

The Wind Creek Casino & Hotel – Wetumpka USCS Sprint Car Shootout format on August 29, 2014 will see the UCS winged sprint car competitors contest a practice session that will be followed by a qualifying session on Friday (August 29th) from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. This three hour time frame will allow for two rounds of practice for each competitor followed by time trials and then a series of qualifying races to determine the final starting order for the 50-lap USCS Sprint Car Shootout finale.
