United Sprint Car Series rolls into Smoky Mountain May 4th as part of double-header weekend

MARYVILLE, TN (April 28, 2013)—The Fayetteville, GA-based United Sprint Car Series (USCS) rolls back into Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN on Saturday Night May 4th as the ‘Thunder in the Smokies’ weekend presented by UJUNKDIT.COM will be the second night of a double-header weekend with 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN who will be competing on Friday Night.

Along with the winged Sprints, the Limited Late Models will race for $1,500 to win, the Midget Sprints and the Southern Lite Mod Series ($400 to win) all will be on the racing card during the May 4th event. This will be the fourth of the 13 scheduled ground-pounding events on the Smoky Mountain Speedway schedule as previous visits by the Southern All Stars (March 23rd), Ray Cook’s Spring Nationals (April 13th) and the World of Outlaws Late Model Series (April 26th) have been held before the USCS event.

Expected from the USCS stable of Outlaw Thunder cars include: The #9JR of Derek Hagar from Marion, AR, the #88 of Tim Crawley from Benton, AR, the #10 of Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN, the #47 of Eric Riggins Jr. of Charlotte, NC, the female sensation and 2010 Series Rookie of the Year #80 of Morgan Turpen from Oakland, TN , the #12D of Dalton Davis from Millington, TN, the #23 of Lance Moss from Cherryville, NC, the 2008 Series Rookie of the Year #16 of Anthony Nicholson from Bartlett, TN, the #89 of Robbie Stillwagon from Burlington, NJ, the #39 of Brad Bowden from Hernando, MS along with the rest of the National touring stars. There will be a complete show of the Dash, Heat Races and the 25-lap main event.

The Pit Gates will open at 3:00 pm with Tier Parking and Grandstand Gates swinging open at 5:00 pm and the Driver’s Meeting is slated for 7:00 pm. Adult Grandstand Admission is $15.00, while Adult Tier Parking Admission is $20.00 and Adult Pit Passes are $35.00.

During last year’s visit to Smoky Mountain Speedway, Derek Hagar of Marion, AR claimed the 25-lap USCS Thunder in the Smokies event win over Morgan Turpen, Anthony Nicholson, Tim Crawley and Justin Carver. In the RockAuto.com USCS 600 Sprint 20-lap main from last year it was Chris Openshaw of Bessemer, AL taking the event win May 4, 2012 over Sean Hosey, Mike Magic, Bobby Zaiontz and Cassie Klenke.

Racing action for Smoky Mountain Speedway includes the hosting of other special events throughout the 2013 season including: Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series, Ray Cook’s Spring Nationals Series, Ray Cook’s Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series, American Modified Series, World of Outlaws Late Model Series, United Sprint Car Series, Southern Regional Racing Series and the Ultimate Late Models.
