Hagar races to 3rd 2013 USCS season win at Duck River Raceway Park

Lewisburg, TN - Saturday, April 20, 2013 – Derek Hagar from Marion Arkansas, again drove his #9Jr. Dynotech powered J&J Auto Racing/R.E. Enterprise sprint car from the K&N Filters Pole Position outside into the www.rockauto.com United Sprint Car Series victory lane at Duck River Raceway Park on Saturday night. It was Hagar’s thirteenth career United Sprint Car Series feature win and third of five USCS events during the 2013 season. Hagar led every lap while holding off the challenges of 2012 USCS National Champion, Tim Crawley from Benton, Arkansas who started outside the front row. The evening’s results left the two driver’s separated by just two points in the 2013 title chase with Hagar holding on the the scant lead.

Ten-time USCS National Champion, Terry Gray from Bartlett, Tennessee, who started sixth raced past the checkered flag on Crawley’s rear bumper to grab the final podium position in the K&N Filters Podium Award third place, 2010 USCS Rookie of the Year and the only female sprint car driver in the field, Morgan Turpen from Cordova, Tennessee battled for the first 15 laps with Crawley for the runner-up spot, but got passed by her teammate (Gray) on lap 16. She then battled with 2008 USCS Rookie of the Year, Anthony Nicholson from Bartlett, Tennessee for the fourth position. Nicholson passed here once but gave it back and the two talented young racers crossed the finish line with Turpen in fourth place and Nicholson, who finished third in the 2012 National standings rounding out the top five.

Former series Champion, Marshall Skinner from Marion, Arkansas led the next group of drivers in sixth place followed by Rookie of the Year contender, Justin Webb in seventh place. Webb was followed by the 2012 USCS Rookie of the Year, Jeff Willingham from Ripley, Mississippi in eighth place. Another Rookie of the Year contender, Curt Terrell from Bartlett, Tennessee followed Willingham in ninth place and ageless veteran Ray Bugg from Iuka, Mississippi who is on his farwell tour after 55 seasons of racing rounded out the top ten.

Derek Hagar started off the evening at the head of the pack with a fast time trial lap of 10.943 around the tacky Duck River Raceway Park ¼ mile racing surface. That was fast enough to best Super Late Model driver Vic Hill’s previous all-time track record of 12.171 set in Fall of 2012 by 1.228 seconds. In all 16 of the 20 USCS competitors eclipsed the old all-time mark.

Defending series Champion, Tim Crawley kicked of the evening’s first wheel-to-wheel competition with a win in the Hoosier Tire Speed Dash. Marshall Skinner won the Engler Machine and Tool First Heat. Tim Crawley also won the Butlerbuilt Second Heat. Morgan Turpen collected the win in the Schoenfeld Headers Third Heat. Derek Hagar garnered the K&N Filters Pole Award. Terry Gray who started 6th in the main event advanced the most positions to earn the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hardcharger Award.
