Kyle Beard and Ashley Newman Claim Weekend Wins for Upton Motorsports

Mercer, Tennessee (05/29/13) – The Memorial Day weekend was an extremely busy time for Upton Motorsports drivers, Kyle Beard & Ashley Newman, as they entered an array of events across the southeast and came away with a pair of wins to show for their efforts.

Kyle Beard and Upton Motorsports competed in the opening round of the 21st Annual Lucas Oil Show Me 100 at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri) on Thursday evening with their #86 Greg's Sawmill/Pierce/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

An extremely talented field of seventy-three Super Late Models registered for battle in the $5,000-to-win program, which was sanctioned by the Lucas Oil MLRA tour. Pill draw determined the heat race line up, and Kyle started second and led early in his heat before settling for a second place finish, which locked him into the fifteenth starting spot for the 40 lap feature. Early in the feature he battled around mid-pack before the handle began to go away on his entry, and he faded to a twenty-fifth place finish. Full results from Thursday's program are available at www.MLRARacing.com .

On Friday evening the qualifying events for the $30,000-to-win, 21st Annual Show Me 100 were held at Lucas Oil Speedway, and seventy-two entries registered for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) program. Time trials found Beard struggling on a rough track, and as a result he started twelfth in his heat race grid. He advanced to an eighth place finish in his heat, which left him well short of advancing to the feature.

On Saturday night Beard started deep in a b-main, and while he failed to reach a transfer spot to the feature with a fifth place finish he did earn the seventh starting spot in the $2,000-to-win, Midwest Sheet Metal Non-Qualifier's Race. Early in the 20 lap affair Beard raced to as high as the third position before settling into a fifth place finish behind race winner, Mike Marlar, Travis Dickes, Randy Weaver, and Tanner English. Full results from the event are available at www.LucasDirt.com .

Ashley Newman entered a NeSmith Weekly Crate Late Model program at Clayhill Motorsports (Atwood, Tennessee) on Saturday evening in an event that drew sixteen entries. Mechanical issues in the feature found Newman only being able to manage a thirteenth place finish in the feature. Full results are available at www.ClayhillMotorsports.com .

Sunday night found Upton Motorsports drivers Ashley Newman and Kyle Beard making the trip to Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi), where Kyle powered to the Super Late Model win over Bo Gordon, Bubba Harrison, Duke Palasini, and Phil Sluder. The win was his second of the year!

Ashley Newman was also victorious on Sunday night at Greenville Speedway as he powered his #73 Upton Motorsports Pierce Crate Late Model to the win in the NeSmith Weekly Crate Late Model event. Mike Marlar Advances Twenty-Two Positions in Show Me 100 Finale

Winfield, Tennessee (05/30/13) - Mike Marlar found himself behind the eight ball early in the Show Me 100 weekend in his #5b Bryson Motorsports/Rocket/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model, but by the time the checkered flag dropped on the $30,000-to-win finale he was credited with a top ten place finish.

Mike Marlar entered the opening night of the 21st Annual Show Me 100 on Thursday night at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Missouri), which was headlined by a $5,000-to-win, Lucas Oil MLRA Super Late Model event at the state-of-the-art, 3/8 mile oval. A stout field of seventy-three entries were on hand for the race, and with passing points being in effect, heat race line-ups were determined by the pill draw. Mike drew a large number at registration, which resulted in him starting ninth in the first heat race on a very slick track. He only managed to advance a single spot in his heat, which left him starting twelfth in his b-main. Despite starting deep in the field he mounted a charge to a third place finish in the b-main. However, with only the top two cars transferring to the feature his night came to an early end. Full results from Thursday night's event are available at www.MLRARacing.com .

On Friday evening the qualifying and preliminary action was held for the $30,000-to-win, 21st Annual Lucas Oil Show Me 100 at Lucas Oil Speedway as seventy-two competitors returned for battle. Qualifications resulted in Mike starting second in his heat race, but on a rough track he slipped to a fourth place finish, which left him one spot short of locking into the feature.

On Saturday night Marlar started on the front row of a b-main, but again fell one spot short of a transfer to the feature. As a result he earned a starting spot in the Midwest Sheet Metal Non-Qualifiers Race. After a heated battled with Travis Dickes Marlar claimed the win in the $2,000-to-win race. He was given the option in victory lane to take the winner's check or to start on the tail of the 100 lap finale. Being the racer that Marlar is he elected to take the starting spot in the crown jewel, where he started twenty-ninth on the grid. Despite starting deep in the field he passed twenty-two entries in the feature to register a strong second place finish. Full results from the event are available at www.LucasDirt.com .

"I have to thank the great folks at Midwest Sheet Metal for sponsoring the non-qualifier's race this year," comments Marlar. "Without them, I would've never had a chance to have such a strong showing in the feature. Chris and Jan (Davis) do so much to support our team and our sport. I can't thank them enough!"

Sunday night found the team pitted at Tri City Speedway (Pontoon Beach, Illinois) for the Budweiser 50, which posted a $10,000 winner's check for the UMP sanctioned event. Thirty-four drivers took to the 3/8 mile oval, and Mike started his night by qualifying fastest in his group. He then finished second in his heat race to lock into the sixth starting spot for the feature. Unfortunately on the first lap of the finale he made contact with the wall, which bent the lower control arm and ended his night in the 20th position. Full results are available at www.TriCitySpeedway.net .

This Saturday, June 1st Mike Marlar and Bryson Motorsports will travel to Florence Speedway (Union, Kentucky) for a $10,000-to-win, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) event at the 1/2 mile oval. For more information on the event, please visit www.LucasDirt.com .

Mike Marlar would like to thank his sponsors and marketing partners including Bryson Motorsports, Bert, Clements Racing Engines, Convenient Lube, Currin Construction, Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, Dominator Race Products, FK Rod Ends, Fragola, GW Performance, Graphic Impressions, H&H Painting & Drywall, Hoosier Racing Tire, Integra Racing Shocks, Keyser Manufacturing, Marlar & Sons Auto Salvage, Midwest Sheet Metal, MSR Mafia, Peterson Fluid Systems, Powers Performance, Rocket Chassis, SEG LLC, Sweet Manufacturing, VP Racing Fuels, and Wiles Driveshafts, and MSRMafia.com Marketing Services.

Northport, Alabama (05/29/13) – The past few months have been a frustrating time for Ronny Lee Hollingsworth as he has endured several rain outs, but on Friday night he resumed the 2013 season in his #18 Sparks Motorsports/Barry Wright Crate Late Model in NeSmith Late Model Series action at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park (Hattiesburg, Mississippi) and scored his fourth win in six starts with the series.

Thirty-four entries registered for battle in the $2,000-to-win program at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park, which served as an opener for a three day swing over the Memorial Day weekend.  Via qualifications Ronny Lee locked into the fourth starting spot for the 40 lap feature.  He pursued early leader Justin McCree for the first eleven laps before taking control on lap 12.  Once out front he never looked back on his way to the victory, which came over Tait Davenport, Kyle Bronson, Shannon Lee, and Ronnie Johnson.

Hunt has solid Memorial Day Weekend, pads lead in USMTS rookie points chase

KEARNEY, Mo. (May 29) — With four races on the agenda this past Memorial Day Weekend, Mother Nature saw fit to allow just two shows to be completed but both were two of the best outings this season for Trevor Hunt and the #99h Trevor Hunt Racing/FVP/Eibach Springs GRT Chassis powered by Yeoman Race Engines.

After rain forced the cancellation of Wednesday’s event at the I-35 Speedway in Mason City, Iowa, the team headed for the Fairmont Raceway in Fairmont, Minn., for the first USMTS Casey’s Cup Series points race in the Farm Boy BBQ Sauce Northern Region.

After an exciting heat race which saw Hunt finish second to fellow teenager Lucas Schott but ahead of seasoned veterans like Joey Jensen, Dereck Ramirez, Ryan Ruter and Ron Jones, the team was confident heading into the main event where they grabbed an 11th-place finish behind USMTS legend Tommy Myer.

Friday found the Trevor Hunt Racing caravan at the Chateau Raceway in Lansing, Minn. Just shortly after his heat race, the skies opened up and rain forced the remainder of the event to be postponed. Hunt will have to qualify through a “B” Main when the USMTS returns to wrap up the program on Thursday, June 6.

On Saturday night, a huge field of cars were on hand with a big crowd looking on. Many of the spectators were sales people and customers of FVP, so it was a great night for Hunt to deliver a great result in front of his supporters.

“We were hoping for a racier racetrack, but we were still able to advance seven spots a track that was tough to pass on, so all in all it was a good night,” Hunt said. “I got the chance to go up and meet some of the people that were there from FVP. It was nice getting to know the other side of the FVP business and meeting a lot of the people there.”

Following a third-place finish in his heat race behind Jason Cummins and Brad Waits—two of the premier drivers at Deer Creek Speedway—Hunt started deep in the field for the 40-lap main event. The 14-year-old from Kearney, Mo., quickly began to move forward from his 18th starting spot, but by the time he cracked the top 10 the track had “rubbered-up” which resulted in a one-lane racing surface that made passing nearly impossible.

Hunt garnered another 11th-place finish to match his Thursday night effort but, more importantly, his two performances helped pad his lead in the USMTS Rookie of the Year points. With 18 races in the books, Hunt sits atop the standings with 1,071 points. Canadian Joey Galloway is just 39 markers behind in second place, followed by his teammate Masen Big Eagle, Texan Shane Sprinkle and Iowa’s Jeff Conner.

Winning the title would make Hunt the youngest ever to win the USMTS rookie crown in the 15-year history of the series. Past USMTS Rookie of the Year Award winners include Stormy Scott (2012), Jason Grimes (2011), Johnny Scott (2010), Grant Junghans (2009), Brandon Kenny (2008), Scott Green (2007), Jay Poidinger (2006), Brad McEwan (2005), Zack VanderBeek (2004), Corey Dripps (2003), Justin Boney (2002), Jason Hughes (2001) and Kevin Peters (2000).

Rookie points are awarded to each eligible driver based on the driver’s best 24 points-earning performances in all USMTS events during the year.

Trevor Hunt Racing is made possible by support from FVP, Eibach Springs, iXL Elite Hydration, DJ Safety, Racegator Transmissions, AERO Race Wheels, Yeoman Race Engines, Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, GRT Race Cars, Grass Roots Racing Show and Rod End Supply.
