Ashley Newman Sweeps Golden Egg Classic at Magnolia

Ripley, Tennessee (04/07/15) – Ashley Newman continued his red-hot start to the 2015 season over the weekend by capturing back-to-back, NeSmith Weekly Racing Series victories at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi), which were held as a part of the inaugural Golden Egg Classic.

Twenty-three Crate Late Models registered for Friday night's, $800-to-win program. With the top ten qualifiers locking into the 20-lap main event, Newman earned the third starting position on the grid in his Greg’s Sawmill #73 Upton Motorsports/Bob Pierce Crate Late Model. Unfortunately, rain moved into the area shortly after preliminary action was complete, forcing officials to postpone the balance of the program to Saturday night.

When action resumed on Saturday, Ashley took control from Shay Knight near the halfway point in Friday night's make-up feature. Newman held the point in the closing laps to score the win over Knight, Mike Palasini Jr., Justin McRee, and Kyle Shaw.

Saturday night's. $1,000-to-win race drew a stout field of thirty-seven entries to the state-of-the-art oval, and Newman raced into the fifth starting spot on the feature grid via time trials. Much like earlier in the night, Newman methodically worked his way toward the front of the pack to take the lead from Justin McRee just past the halfway mark. Newman led the final circuits en route to his fifth straight victory over, Jeremy Shaw, Shay Knight, Johnny Stocks, and Mike Palasini Jr.

“Wow, it’s just unbelievable how good this car is right now,” said Newman. “It’s a direct reflection of just how hard my team is working, and I couldn’t be more honored to get to drive this hot rod every weekend.”

Blake Hahn Holds on For 11th Place Finish with ASCS Red River

SAPULPA, Okla. (April 7, 2015) Blake Hahn looked to be on his way to a top-five finish with the ASCS Red River Region this past Friday night at the Red River Speedway, but losing the left sideboard of the Front Wing relegated the Lucas Oil Products No. 52 to the tail in the closing laps.

With attrition in his favor, Hahn was still able to record an 11th place finish in the region’s inaugural event.

“We were running third at one point, but with the track rubbered around the bottom, I missed the line and allowed Tim [Crawley] and Johnny [Herrera] to get by. After that I just maintained until the sideboard came off the front wing,” said Hahn.

"That put us tailback and with the rubber, you just couldn’t pass so from there, I just stayed out there and tried to pick up what I could. Wish we would have finished better, but my Dad and Dalton gave me another great car to work with.”

Looking to the coming weekend, Blake will again take on the ASCS Red River Region with stops at the Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. on Friday, April 10 and Super Bowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas on Saturday, April 11.

“It’s always nice to race at home. I’ve logged a lot of laps and Creek so I’m really looking forward to Friday night.”
