Bobby Pierce Becomes Youngest Driver in History to Score DIRTcar Summer Nationals “Hell Tour” Victory

LINCOLN, Ill. — June 30, 2013 — Bobby Pierce is only 16 years old but he accomplished a feat on Sunday night at Lincoln Speedway that many in Dirt Late Model racing only dream about — winning a DIRTcar Summer Nationals event.

Pierce, of Oakwood, Ill., captured the $10,000 victory in dominating fashion at quarter-mile Lincoln Speedway on the 12th night of the six-week DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour, becoming the youngest winner in the 26-year history of the grueling summer series.

Pierce lined up on the outside of points leader Brandon Sheppard on the front row for the 60-lap feature, but it was three-time series champion Shannon Babb who charged from sixth to lead the 22-car field in the early going. Pierce caught and passed Babb on lap 9 then held off 2004 series champion Don O’Neal to the checkered flag.

“We’ve been trying so hard to do this, getting top-fives and coming close,” said Pierce, whose father, Bob, is a two-time DIRTcar Summer Nationals champion (1992, 1995). “It’s so hard to win these things. You’ve got the best of the best. I’m so glad to finally get one. It’s amazing.”

Sheppard, Ryan Unzicker and last year’s champion Brian Shirley rounded out the top five.
Heat race winners included Tyler Reddick, Sheppard, Dustin Griffin and Pierce.

The DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour continues on Tuesday night at Quincy Raceways located in Quincy, Illinois.

Bollinger Scores Victory over Massive Field at Lincoln Speedway

LINCOLN, Ill. — June 30, 2013 —Illinois native Ray Bollinger took advantage of leader Justin Allgaier’s mid-race spin to capture a home-state win Sunday night at Lincoln Speedway during the 13th-leg of the 2013 Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals at Lincoln Speedway.

With a massive field of 59 DIRTcar UMP Modifieds at the quarter-mile oval, each chasing the $2,000 checkered flag, it was almost guaranteed to be a shootout. Bollinger, of Kewaee, Ill., started the A-main from the outside of the front row, with NASCAR Nationwide Series regular Allgaier on the pole. Allgaier led for the first half of the race before things quickly changed when Allgaier spun, turning over the lead to second-place-running Bollinger. The wreck destroyed the driver’s side of Bollinger’s car but that didn’t slow him down as he dominated the remainder of the race, capturing the $2,000 purse over Brian Lynn.
“I was getting a good run on (Allgaier) in turns 3 and 4, he was kind of messing up and getting tight through the corner,” said Bollinger, the current DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals points leader. “He kind of stood on it, getting it pinched down, and ended up spinning out. I couldn’t believe my eyes when he came off the corner and the yellow came out.”

Tyler Nicely, Rusty Griffaw and Allen Weisser rounded out the top five.

Heat race winners included Brian Lynn, Tyler Nicely, Rusty Griffaw, Justin Allgaier and Erik Bruce.
