2nd Annual ULTIMATE Series Buck Simmons Memorial Set for Saturday at Toccoa Speedway

Toccoa, Georgia – Officials of the Toccoa Speedway and the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series announced today that this Saturday’s event at Toccoa Speedway will be the 2nd Annual Buck Simmons Memorial. The event which will pay tribute to a Georgia dirt racing legend, who traditionally drove a car with that was numbered 41, will pay $4100 to win and $410 to start the 41 lap feature event. Simmons, who was a first-ballot National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame inductee as well as a member of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, had a racing career which spanned close to 5 decades during which he racked up a whopping 1,024 feature victories on dirt and asphalt. Simmons officially retired in 2004 due to persistent health issues. His long and highly accomplished racing career earned him the nickname “The Living Legend” and unparalleled respect in the racing community. Simmons, formerly of Baldwin, Georgia, passed away on August 12, 2012 after a long illness.

“Buck finished his career racing weekly in our FASTRAK Racing Series at the tracks here in Georgia but he was so commonly known and associated with Super Late Model racing it was only fitting that HIS event be run under our ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series banner. We are hoping to have one of Buck’s former cars there to pace the field and to be on display for all of the fans to see. Buck was a big part of helping me to build up FASTRAK when we were getting started and I am so appreciative of that. So we could not be prouder to be included in this great event that we hope will be a fitting tribute to such a great champion of our sport and we are looking forward to being a part of many more to come.” said ULTIMATE Series founder Stan Lester.

“I am really proud to be a part of a tribute to such a great racer. As a kid growing up I remember very well watching Buck in the Carolina Tool 41 car. I also remember that he won a lot of those races. Buck was one of those racers that only come along every once in a great while and I am so glad that I was able to be able to watch him race before he retired. So it really is a privilege to be able to pay tribute to the Living Legend at one of his home tracks with our series. We are sure going to do our best to make sure that Buck gets a fitting tribute.” said ULTIMATE Series Director Kelley Carlton.

In 2012 Casey Roberts rolled to an emotional victory in the Inaugural Buck Simmons Memorial over Ray Cook. Roberts is on a hot streak after scoring a big win in West Virginia on June 1st and he could be poised to score another victory at his home track. Roberts is the only driver to have more than one win with the ULTIMATE Series this year. Roberts also leads the Series point standings coming into the Buck Simmons Memorial. Following Roberts is Tennessee’s Brett Miller; Jeff Smith of Dallas, North Carolina; Hodges, South Carolina racer Larry Timms; Chris Ferguson of Mt. Holly, North Carolina; Mike Gault of Gaffney, South Carolina; Chris Madden of Gray Court, South Carolina; Enoree, South Carolina’s Zack Mitchell; Savannah, Georgia’s Casey Barrow and Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Georgia round out the top 10 in series points.
