10th Anniversary of the Tarheel 50 will be ran Friday October 4th at Tri-County Race Track

BRASSTOWN, NC (September 25, 2013)—The 10th anniversary running of the Ray Cook-promoted  Tarheel 50 presented again this year by Hogsed Sports Wear in Warne, NC is set to go on Friday Night October 4, 2013 at the Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC.

The largest paying Stock Car event of the season will pay $4,053 to win / $400 to start event and feature a complete show for the Super Late Models including practice, Time Trials (Six drivers will be locked into the main), Last Chance Races and the 53-lap main event. The Crate Late Models will race for $600 to win, the Interstate Welding Modified Streets race for $400 to win, the Street Stocks race for $300 to win and the Pony division will race for $300 to win. This will be the final racing event of the season for Tri-County Race Track.

It’s been a ‘Who’s Who’ of dirt Late Model racing that have been in attendance at the event or have won the event since the inception in 2004 at Tri-County Race Track and when the event was held at Cleveland (TN) Speedway. Until last season, no driver from the Tarheel State of North Carolina had one the event until local hot-shoe David Payne of Murphy captured the $3,500 victory over Indiana’s Don O’Neal. No driver has ever been a repeat winner at this event. The regional stars will face off with the track’s hot-bed of weekly competitors including last year’s track champion Johnny Chastain along with Jamie Oliver and George Mashburn all from Murphy, NC; Danny Ledford from Warne, NC; David Payne of Murphy, NC; Shawn Chastain, Kenny Collins, Glenn Barnett, Randy Nichols and Gabe Wilson. Dillon Wood of New Smyrna Beach, FL will be looking to defend his Memorial Day Championship Super Late Model win as he took the $3,000 event win back on Memorial Day (May 27th) which was the last big-paying Super Late Model event held at Tri-County this season. Also expected are Lucas Oil Series star Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN; Shane Clanton of Zebulon, GA; Clint Smith of Senoia, GA; Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, TN; Casey Roberts of Toccoa, GA along with many other local and regional competitors.

In the Super Late Model event, added bonuses for the highest finishing Steel Block Late Models have been added. The highest finishing Steel Block driver will receive a $200.00 bonus while the second highest finishing LLM driver will receive a $100.00 bonus. A $100.00 entry fee for the Super Late Models will be charged that night. If a Super Late Model driver does not make the 20-car main event, he will receive $50.00. The Super Late Model tire rule is as follows: Hoosier 1300, 1350 and Right Rear option 1600. The American Racer 44, 48 and Right Rear 56 option will also be allowed. The Crate Late Models will also be allowed to use the FT200 (no grooving) along with the Hoosier 1350 & American Racer 48.

After all main events have been completed, the Modified Street, Street Stock & Pony drivers who have never won a feature event in the last three years (since Ray Cook took over as Promoter) at Tri-County Race Track will square off in their respective divisions for a 6-lap $100 to win plus Trophy Non-Winners race.

On Friday October 4th both grandstand and pit gates will open at 4:00 pm with the Driver’s Meeting slated for 7:00 pm and racing to begin at around 7:20 pm. Adult General Admission is $18.00 with children 11-16 admitted for $8.00 while children ten and under are admitted for Free. Adult Pit Passes are $30.00 with children 11-16 admitted for $15.00 while children under ten are admitted for Free.

With lots to do in the area to open the Month of October, be sure to take in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Super Late Models that will also be in action at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA (October 5th) and Rome Speedway in Rome, GA (October 6th) for the annual Dixie Shootout weekend as the Nation’s best will compete for two big nights of racing action. Plenty goes on the first weekend in October in the Western Carolina / North Georgia area in addition to the majestic Mountain views and the harvest leaves at their peak.
