William Thomas Tops NeSmith Action in Gumbo Nationals Finale

Phenix City, Alabama (10/08/13) - It was just another weekend, where William Thomas continued his winning ways as he piloted his #A19 Alexander's Industrial Services/GRT Late Model to his tenth win of the 2013 season with a $5,000 triumph in the 7th Annual Gumbo Nationals finale at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi)!

Thirty-six entries were on hand for the event, and after blazing to fast time honors with a 15.952 second lap around the 1/4 mile oval on Friday evening William scored his heat race win to lock into the pole position for Saturday night's 50 lap finale. However, before the feature could be contested on Saturday heavy rain arrived, pushing the finale to Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday when action finally commenced, Thomas was joined on the front row by Johnny Stokes, and as the feature went green it was Stokes, who bolted to the lead with Thomas in tow. William stalked the leader during the race's early laps before taking over control of the top spot on lap 6. Once out front Thomas never looked back en route to his tenth win of the season. He was followed across the finish line by Johnny Stokes, Chase Washington, Ronnie Johnson, and Tait Davenport.

Thomas also competed in the Super Late Model division with the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) and would go on to race his way to an 11th place finish in the $7,500 fi nale on Saturday night.

Bub McCool Rockets to Gumbo Nationals Title; Apologizes to Fans

Vicksburg, MS (10/08/13) – While the weekend may have started on a sour note, by the time the final checkered flag dropped on the 7th Annual Gumbo Nationals Bub McCool had claimed the $7,500 victory for the third, straight year in his #57J McCool Logging/Henderson Motorsports/Schaeffer Oil/Victory Circle M1 Chassis By Moyer/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Thirty-two entries took part in the event, which was sanctioned by the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS), at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi). Bub started on the second row of his heat race on Friday night, but a skirmish on the first lap of his heat race resulted in damage and forced him pit side.

As a result he started deep in a b-main on Saturday night, and his struggles wouldn't finish there as he was involved in an early-race caution, which sent him to the tail of the field. Despite going to the tail he rebounded to finish 2nd, which locked McCool into the 20th starting spot for the 75 lap finale.

Under threatening skies the main event was rushed to the grid, and when the green flag dropped McCool wasted little time working his way forward through the pack. By lap 10 he ran in the 5th spot, and just fifteen laps later he rocketed past leader, Chris Wall, for the top spot. Once out front Bub outran the rain and a few close calls with lapped traffic to score his fourth win of the year, which came over Brian Rickman, Robert Baker, Chris Wall, and Neil Baggett.

"The car was amazing in the feature, and I can't thank my crew and sponsors enough," commented McCool. "However, I want to apologize to my fans and all of the children, who heard my language in the victory lane interview. I was really upset over something said, but I shouldn't have used that language. I apologize to everyone who heard my words."
Full results are available at www.StateSeries.com .

This weekend, October 10th-12th, McCool Motorsports will travel to Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) for the 10th Annual Magnolia State Cotton Pickin' 100, which will post a $20,000 top prize for the 100 lap finale. Action opens on Thursday evening with an open practice. Friday night's program includes time trials and heat race competition, while festivities draw to a close on Saturday evening with consolation races and the coveted finale.
