William Thomas Races to 9th Victory of 2013 Season with EAMS Triumph

Phenix City, Alabama (10/02/13) - It was an ultra-busy weekend for William Thomas as he competed in the 35th Annual Alabama State Championships over the weekend at East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Alabama), where he competed in three divisions and came away with 9th victory of the 2013 campaign.

In Crate Late Model competition William qualified 2nd fastest in time trials to lock into the outside-front-row starting spot for Sunday's finale. On the opening lap of the $5,000-to-win race on Sunday afternoon Thomas powered to the lead exiting turn two, and once out front he never looked back as he led every lap to score his 9th win of the 2013 season!

Sportsman competition found William earning the 5th starting spot for the feature via qualifying, and in the $5,000-to-win finale he raced his way through the pack to challenge Bobby Thomas for the win before coming up half a car length short at the finish line as he settled for a second place finish.

The weekend's festivities also found William competing in a pair of $4,000-to-win, Southern All Star (SAS) Super Late Model programs. On Saturday afternoon a strong field of 40 entries took to the 1/2 mile oval, and after qualifying second fastest in his group he locked into the 3rd starting spot for the 40 lap feature. As the race went green he slipped back a few spots, but would go on to race in the top ten throughout the feature before crossing the finish line in the 7th position.

On Sunday evening 31 entries returned for action with the SAS competitors, and Thomas would spend much of the event behind the eight ball. He raced into the feature after finishing 2nd in his b-main, but would only be able to manage a 17th place finish in the finale.
