Swindell Excited to Make Winged Midget Debut on Pavement Saturday

Inside Line Promotions - GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (Aug. 16, 2016) - Sammy Swindell is diving into a new form of racing this Saturday.

Swindell will make his winged midget debut on pavement at Star Speedway in Epping, N.H., where the Northeastern Midget Association is competing.

"I haven't even been to New Hampshire before," he said. "An opportunity came about when Tim Bertrand furnished an engine for Kevin's car for the Chili Bowl. He saw we'd be at Lebanon Valley Speedway this weekend for a race. I've never run a midget on pavement with a wing and I haven't been to the state of New Hampshire so I thought that'd be fun. That'd be something I could add to the growing résumé.

"It's new people and new circumstances and it's a whole different car. It's similar, but different from what I've done before. That's just a big challenge and that intrigues me to step over here and do something different."

Swindell said his goal remains the same regardless of the type of car he races or whether it's his first time in it.

"I'd never seen a midget in the 70s and got to go to Colorado and a guy says, 'Why don't you drive one?' We wound up winning that. That's always the goal to come in and win. Everything that I've done I think I've been competitive in."

Swindell is also scheduled to drive a winged sprint car for CJB Motorsports this Thursday at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., and Sunday at Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, N.Y., with the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions.

Jason Hughes Pushes Win Total to Lucky #13; The Hunt Continues

Westville, Oklahoma (08/17/16) – Jason Hughes increased his 2016-win tally to 13 on Saturday night in his Murphrey Oil Company #12 West Siloam Pawn/ Hughes Chassis/ Mullins Racing Engine Modified.

After three consecutive rain-outs, the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) resumed at Ogilvie Raceway (Ogilvie, Minnesota) on Saturday night for the fourth round of The Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental. In a field of 32 entries, Jason gained five positions in his heat landing a runner-up finish behind Johnny Scott. His heat race performance came at an expense though as the team was forced to change power plants before the start of the feature.

Via his heat race performance Hughes transferred into the main event with the 7th-starting spot, and he worked his way into the lead by lap 31. Holding off the field for the remaining 11 laps, Jason Hughes captured his 13th victory of the season and a $3,000 payday. Jesse Sobbing, Johnny Scott, Rodney Sanders, and Cade Dillard trailed Hughes across the finish line in the 42-lapper.

“It was a little choppy in places, but with all the rain they’ve had up here the track was in pretty good shape,” Hughes said in Widow Wax Victory Lane. “It’s a real nice place and we love coming here to race.”

On Sunday night the USMTS followers headed to Mason City Motor Speedway (Mason City, Iowa) for another $3,000-to-win A-Main. Improving four spots in his heat, Jason posted a 3rd-place finish giving him the pole position for the main event. Hanging on to a Top 5 finish, Hughes posted a 5th-place finish behind Cade Dillard, Rodney Sanders, Zack VanderBeek, and Johnny Scott.
Jason is currently leading The Hunt for the Casey's Cup with five races completed.

Complete results and the latest standings can be found at www.USMTS.com .

The Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup resumes this weekend with a four-race swing. Action opens on Thursday evening at Adams County Speedway (Corning, Iowa) before shifting to Lakeside Speedway (Kansas City, Kansas) on Friday night for the inaugural $10,000-to-win, Grant Junghans Memorial. Saturday night’s action will be contested at Salina Highbanks Speedway (Pryor Creek, Oklahoma), while the weekend will draw to a close on Sunday night at 81 Speedway (Park City, Kansas). Chattanooga, Tennessee (08/17/16) –Todd Morrow didn’t let Mother Nature completely rain on his parade on Saturday night. Tankersley Returns to ASCS Gulf South Region Action This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - HIGHLANDS, Texas (Aug. 16, 2016) - Channin Tankersley's bid for a second ASCS Gulf South Region championship is getting closer as the season is winding down.

There are only four remaining races on the schedule, including two this weekend - Friday at Heart O' Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas, and Saturday at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas.

Tankersley currently leads the series with four wins, eight top fives and nine top 10s and he swept the two most recent events to give him a 121-point advantage in the championship standings. In fact, Tankersley has earned six consecutive podium finishes during ASCS Gulf South Region action.

He is 2-for-2 at Heart O' Texas Speedway, where he's won both events this season.

"Heart O' Texas tends to get rough whenever it gets heavy," he said. "The first night this season it was rough and heavy. The second night it was super slick. Usually when that place is rough and heavy it's hard to pass because everyone is fast. I like it when it gets slicked up."

He also scored a podium with a third-place result during his only visit this season to Lone Star Speedway.

"I like the place," he said. "Usually that place has a gnarly cushion and is super slick. The last time it got slick at the beginning of the A Main, but at the end of the race it started getting heavy and rough. I'm pretty excited for this weekend. Both of these places are tracks I like."

SEASON STATS -

18 races, 4 wins, 10 top fives, 11 top 10s, 13 top 15s, 15 top 20s

Hagar Overcomes Early Crash to Score 10th-Place Finish

Inside Line Promotions - BYRAM, Miss. (Aug. 16, 2016) - Derek Hagar rebounded from an early crash to post a top 10 last Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway.

Hagar opened the co-sanctioned event between the USCS Series and ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints by winning the dash before he charged from fourth to claim a heat race victory.

"We got the lead on Lap 4 or 5," he said. "We got into second pretty quick, probably on the first lap. I had to change my line up a bit. The race track was really slick. We had to maneuver around to figure out the best way to make a pass. We finally got a good run going into turn three to pull off a slider."

Hagar was the driver with the most points entering the feature inversion, which was a six to start him on the outside of the third row for the main event.

"On the start of the race we were letting everything pan out," he said. "Seth Bergman spun and I was on the outside of Terry Gray. He darted to the right and I jumped his right rear. We flipped it over. We went to the work area. I didn't have a left front brake and it crumpled the top wing. My crew pulled it as much as they could where I could see a little."

Hagar returned to the track at the back of the pack with a damaged race car.

"The car was a handful," he said. "I had to be patient and make passes smart. You don't realize how critical the left front brake is until you don't have it. We salvaged a top 10 out of it."

Hagar rallied from last to score a 10th-place finish, which was his 28th top 10 of the season.

He is slated to return to action this Saturday at St. Francois County Raceway in Farmington, Mo., and Sunday at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., for the High Roller Classic with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Blaney Makes Knoxville Nationals A Main for 11th Time

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 16, 2016) - Dale Blaney drove into the A Main at the 5-Hour ENERGY Knoxville Nationals last weekend for the 11th time in his career and for the sixth time in the last eight years.

"Any time you make the A Main it's a good thing," he said. "With the caliber of team we have we shouldn't be happy with just making the A Main."

Blaney and the Mainstream Holdings Inc. sponsored CH Motorsports team kicked off preliminary action on Thursday by qualifying 22nd quickest. Blaney then advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race, which earned him the final spot into the feature inversion and the pole position for the main event.

"We were disappointed with our qualifying effort," he said. "I didn't make two good laps. I should have been at least 10 places better on the board than I was. The way it turned out if we had been better we'd be stuck further back in the heat race and maybe we wouldn't have made it out. The B Main was tough. Not many guys made it out of the heat and it stuck us on the pole of the A Main."

Blane led the first seven laps of the feature before falling to second just as he was entering traffic. He ran in that position for several more laps before a restart.

"Starting second on a restart I knew where I had to go," he said. "I had Jason Johnson sitting in third. He got underneath of me. Trying to get back by him caused me to have (Terry) McCarl get a run on me and that dropped me to fourth. (Kerry) Madsen got by a couple of laps later and put me to fifth."

Blaney ended in the fifth position, which ranked him 18th in overall points out of more than 100 drivers. That was two spots out of locking into Saturday's main event and lined him up on the outside of the front row for the 22-lap B Main during the finale.

Blaney led the first 18 laps of the consolation race before dropping to second in traffic. He held onto that position to transfer into the 50-lap feature, which he started 22nd.

"I just didn't get a very good start," he said. "If I could have got by six or seven cars early it would have put us in position to race the last half of it. I knew I had about 12 to 15 laps to really get going and I didn't."

Blaney was lapped just before a caution came out around Lap 15. That trapped him down a lap for the remainder of the race and he pulled off early to end with a 23rd-place result.

He will return to Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions action this weekend with four races on tap - Thursday at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., Saturday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., and Sunday at Lebanon Valley Speedway in West Lebanon, N.Y.

The action begins on Saturday at St. Francois County Raceway in Farmington before Sunday's High Roller Classic at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia.

Bergman finished second during his lone trip to Missouri State Fair Speedway earlier this summer and he placed fifth at the big track last season.

Dover Unsure of Weekend Plan Following 360 Start Against World of Outlaws

Inside Line Promotions - McCOOL JUNCTION, Neb. (Aug. 17, 2016) - Jack Dover competed with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at Junction Motor Speedway on Tuesday night with his 360ci engine.

"We were obviously down on horsepower and the track was fast and heavy," he said. "We ended up pulling off the track in every race."

Dover qualified 17th quickest before exiting the track early in the heat race and qualifier. That lined him up on the inside of the eighth row for the main event. Dover raced for several laps before pulling off with a 14th-place finish.

The plan for this weekend is up in the air. He might pilot a 305ci sprint car at Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb., on Saturday before racing his 360 sprint car on Sunday at Missouri State Fair Raceway in Sedalia, Mo., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

The other possibility is to head to Minnesota to tackle an Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series doubleheader - Friday at Princeton Speedway in Princeton and Saturday at Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie - that kicks off the six-race Midwest Power Series.

"We will look at the weather at the end of this week and make a decision at that point," he said. "Regardless of where we race the next goal is to get win No. 10 in the books."

Dover has recorded nine feature wins this season - all in his last 22 races.
