Hall of Famer Sammy Swindell to battle World of Outlaws at I-30 Speedway

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — April 24, 2016 — Sammy Swindell has been racing at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Arkansas for longer than many of the drivers he currently competes against have been alive. The three-time World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion made his first start at the quarter-mile back in 1974, finishing second, in what was just his second year in a sprint car.

Fast forward 41 years, and Swindell will make another appearance at I-30 Speedway as he takes on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on Tuesday, April 26. The event for the series is the first at the track since 1994. Swindell has three wins with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at I-30 Speedway. He swept a pair of races in 1981 and his most recent win with the series at “Hammer Hill” was in 1992.

Swindell is a three-time winner of the prestigious Short Track Nationals at I-30 Speedway. He won the famed event for the first time in 1990. Swindell was back in victory lane at the Short Track Nationals in 2011 and again in 2013.

The Hall of Famer picked up his first win at I-30 Speedway in 1975 and has a total of nine wins at the track in a sprint car over the years. Along with winning with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, he also has been victorious with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series and National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) at I-30 Speedway.

Swindell finished second to longtime rival Steve Kinser, the 20-time World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion, in the inaugural race for the series at I-30 Speedway in 1979.

The Tennessee native, who is running a “True Outlaw” schedule in 2016, has one win already this season in a sprint car, with that coming against the GoMuddy.com NSL 360 Series at Randolph County Raceway in Missouri. That win extended Swindell’s streak of consecutive years with a victory to 46, dating back to his first wins in 1971 behind the wheel of a Modified.
