Dustin Strand Pulls the Hat Trick North of the Border

Grand Forks, North Dakota (10/04/16) –Dustin Strand visited Victory Lane on three occasions during the annual Prairie Classic at Red River Co-op Speedway. He picked up a single win in his RH Rebel Storage #71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating/ Longhorn Late Model, while also piloting a brand-new Millenium B-Mod to a pair of victories.

“We had a really great weekend overall,” remarked Strand. “It was really exciting to win the two Midwest Mod features because those victories came in our newest designed, Millenium SRT Chassis that we just built for Scott Bintz. That thing was stout all weekend and it gives us a lot of excitement on what the future holds for that design.”

Competing in the two-day Prairie Classic, Dustin Strand headed to Red River Co-op Speedway (Winnipeg, Manitoba) on Friday night, where he piloted both Scott Bintz’ brand-new #1s Midwest Modified and his familiar #71 Late Model. In a field of 17 Late Models, Dustin moved up six spots in his heat landing a runner-up finish behind Ricky Weiss. Starting in the 8th position for the main event, Strand charged to his 22nd victory of the season over Brad Seng, Bill Mooney, Shane Edginton, and Steffen Snare.

During the same night in a field of 32 Midwest Modifieds, Strand stormed to a heat race win from the 6th-starting position. Rolling off 2nd for the A-Main, Dustin reeled in his second victory of the night, topping Jamie Davis, Grant Hall, Paul Veert, and Christopher Leek.

Returning on Saturday, Strand started the night with a heat race win in the Late Model division, which positioned him on the pole for the feature. Losing one position in the finale, Dustin landed a runner-up finish behind Ricky Weiss with Brad Seng, Mike Balcaen, and Rick Fawcett completing the Top 5.

Starting in the 6th spot in his Modified heat on Saturday evening, Dustin captured a heat race win, securing his spot into the main event. For the second-straight night Strand wired the Midwest Modified field to capture his third win of the weekend and 24th overall on the season with Jamie Davis, Grant Hall, Paul Veert, and Hunter Hougard trailing him across the finish line.

Hagar Has Luck on His Side During Win at Riverside International Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Oct. 4, 2016) - Derek Hagar made another visit to Victory Lane last Saturday during the Fall Nationals at Riverside International Speedway.

Hagar started off the night by advancing from fourth to second place in a heat race, helping him gain crucial points for the feature lineup.

"We had the fourth starting spot in our heat race and finished second, which put me second in passing points," he said.

Hagar started second in the A Main, where he followed Marshall Skinner for the first half of the main event.

"In the feature, I ran second for the first 12 laps and Skinner was leading the race," he said. "Skinner tried to get by a lap car, got over the cushion and into the fence and flipped."

Hagar benefitted from Skinner's misfortune and claimed the top spot approximately halfway through the 25-lap feature.

"I inherited the lead and we led the final 13 laps and held on for the win," he said. "I guess I'd rather be lucky than good any day."

Hagar is set to race this Saturday at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala., with the USCS Series.

Dover Scores Season-Best ASCS National Tour Result and Records Second Straight Nebraska 360 Sprints Championship

Inside Line Promotions - GREENWOOD, Neb. (Oct. 4, 2016) - Jack Dover posted his best Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour result of the season last Saturday at I-80 Speedway during the Midwest Fall Brawl V.

Dover earned a runner-up result during the event, which was co-sanctioned by the Carpetland Nebraska 360 Sprints. By showing up to the race Dover clinched his second straight Nebraska 360 Sprints championship.

"To win the championship and run second, it was a really good weekend," he said. "Any time you can win a championship it means your stuff was working and you were consistent all year."

The night began with Dover advancing from sixth to fourth place in his first heat race before he won his second heat race after starting fourth. That ranked him fourth out of 40-plus competitors and earned him a spot in the dash, where he placed third to start the feature on the inside of the second row.

"The track was too good early, but it started widening out for the second heat race," he said. "In the dash it took a while to get to second and then on the last lap (Jonathan) Cornell got by me.

"We got up to second right away in the feature and were all over (Terry) McCarl. The red came out 11 laps into it. I thought it'd be a good call to switch the gear because I thought my car wasn't pulling the corners hard enough. In the long run I think I could have used that gear that I pulled out."

Dover dropped to fourth before a caution with a handful of laps remaining.

"We were fourth with five laps to go," he said. "We took off and Wayne (Johnson) broke so there was another restart with a lapped car in front of me. We railed around the top in turns one and two and got past the lapped car and second place. We chased down McCarl and I think we would have had him in a lap or two."

Dover's second-place finish was his 24th top five of the season.

"There were some good guys there," he said. "Any time you can run second with the national guys it's a good night."

Dover is slated to make his debut at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, this Saturday with the NRA Sprint Invaders.

"We're going to be making a dream come true," he said. "I've always wanted to go and nowhere is racing around here so we're going to make it happen."

Hanks Venturing to Timberline Speedway Saturday With ASCS Red River Region

Inside Line Promotions - BURLISON, Tenn. (Oct. 4, 2016) - Brandon Hanks owns a 183-point lead in the ASCS Red River Region championship standings entering this Saturday's showdown.

Hanks and the series are heading to Timberline Speedway in Corley, Texas, for the first time this year.

"Our race there last year was our first in a J-R1 chassis," he said. "I think we got a top 10 and started building momentum."

Hanks won a heat race before he placed eighth in the main event during last year's visit. This season he's closing in on his first career sprint car championship and doesn't want to make any bad decisions.

"You just have to think about the big picture," he said. "Is it worth the risk on the type of moves you make? If you're running fourth and the leader is gone and you have to throw a risky move for third it might not be worth it."

Hanks is tied for the region lead with two wins. He has also posted nine top fives and 11 top 10s - both lead the region - in 15 features.

"Hopefully we'll have another good points night and keep building that lead," he said.

SEASON STATS -
