Dustin Strand Breaks out the Broom in Weekend action

Grand Forks, North Dakota (08/30/16) – Dustin Strand didn’t cut his fellow competitors any slack over the weekend as he swept both Northern Late Model Racing Association events in his RealTruck.com #71 Schill Construction/ Longhorn Chassis Late Model.

“I think it’s fair to say that the month of August was very good to our team, seeing as how we won the feature in eight of the 11 races that we ran,” Strand said with a smile. “Hopefully this wave will continue through the end of the season. I really want to again thank everyone, who helps me and my racing operation.”

Competing in the Northern Late Model Racing Association (NLRA) sanctioned program, Dustin Strand visited Red River Co-op Speedway (Winnipeg, Manitoba) on Thursday night for the $1,100-to-win Can-Am Cup. Drawing 20 entries, Dustin started the night with a heat race win, which positioned him on the pole for the feature. Leading every lap of the 25-lap main event, Strand captured his 16th win of the season over Bill Mooney, Mike Balcaen, Cole Schill, and Brad Seng.

Friday night brought 21 NLRA followers to River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, North Dakota) for another $1,100-to-win top prize. Storming to a heat race win early in the night, Dustin earned the 3rd-starting spot for the feature. Taking the lead on lap 7, Dustin Strand held off a hard-charging Donny Schatz to pick up this third-straight victory and 17th overall on the season. Donny Schatz, Joey Pederson, Bill Mooney, and Zach Naastad rounded out the Top 5 in the A-Main.

With momentum on his side Strand is hungrier than ever to conquer more events during the extended Labor Day weekend. North Georgia Victory Notched by Riley Hickman

Cleveland, Tennessee (08/30/16) – For the first time in August, Riley Hickman parked his Hickman Manufacturing #R1 CVR Super Late Model in victory lane on Saturday night with a triumph at North Georgia Speedway. The win was his 15th of 2016.

“It’s been a month or so since we got a win, so it was nice to get things rolling again on Saturday night,” said Hickman. ”We had to work past some good cars to get the win, so that gives us some confidence that we are getting things pointed in the right direction again.”

Behind the wheel of the American Billet #R1 CVR Super Late Model, Riley Hickman visited North Georgia Speedway (Chatsworth, Georgia) on Saturday for the regular night of racing. Starting near the tail of the 12-car field in the feature, Riley stormed to his 15th victory of the season with Aaron Ridley, Tod Hernandez, Jordan Rodenbaugh, and Lavon Sparks rounding out the Top 5.

The Labor Day weekend will be a busy time for Hickman Motorsports. Action kicks off on Saturday night at Thunderhill Raceway (Summertown, Tennessee) with a $4,000-to-win, Southern All Star (SAS) Super Late Model Series event. Cory Hedgecock Continues I-75 Dominance; Busy Labor Day Ahead

Loudon, Tennessee (08/30/16) – Cory Hedgecock’s dominance of I-75 Raceway in 2016 continued on Friday night with yet another victory at the speed plant in his SmithBilt Homes #23 Transport One/ Rocket Chassis/ Eagle Racing Engine Late Model.

“I-75 has been really good to us this year,” noted Hedgecock. “I think we’ve won like seven out of nine races there, so anytime you can do that it’s something to be proud of.”

Powering his Eagle Racing Engines #23 Limited Late Model, Cory Hedgecock visited I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, Tennessee) on Friday night for the regular night of racing. In a field of 13 entries, Hedgecock earned the pole for the feature via preliminary events. Bringing home his 17th victory of the season, Cory outdueled Benjy Shaw, Brad Coffey, Ryan Tims, and Johnny Ridings in the A-Main at the lightning-fast oval.

On Saturday Cory made the trek to travel to Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee) to compete in the Southern Nationals Bonus Series sanctioned program. Transferring the Top 5 out of the heats to the finale Hedgecock landed a 5th -place finish, which earned him the 20th-starting position for the $5,000-to-win A-Main. Passing seven cars in the 40-lap feature, Cory posted a 13th place finish. He received a $200 bonus for being the highest-finishing competitor with a spec engine.

Hunt Dreams Stay Alive for Rodney Sanders with Park Jefferson Win

Happy, Texas (08/30/16) – Rodney Sanders kept his dreams of topping the 2016 Hunt for the USMTS Championship alive by powering his Wichita Tank Racing #20 MB Customs/Hatfield Racing Engine Modified to the $3,000 victory on Saturday at Park Jefferson Speedway

“The battle for the title is especially tough this year, so anytime we can win a race it’s going to be a big help,” said Sanders. “(Cade) Dillard and (Jason) Hughes are just so tough that they don’t make many mistakes. We are definitely on our toes right now giving it all we’ve got, but we are running out of time with just five races left.”

Returning to action in the Hunt for the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) Casey’s Cup powered by S&S Fishing and Rental, Rodney Sanders visited Hamilton County Speedway (Webster City, Iowa) on Thursday night for the ninth stop of the tour. In a field of 26 cars, Rodney logged a 7th-place outing in his heat, which relegated him into the B-Main. Holding his 5th-starting position for all 10-laps, Sanders rolled off 19th for the main event. Breaking into the Top 5, Rodney Sanders charged forward 14 spots in the 32-lap A-Main registering a 5th-place finish behind Cade Dillard, Zack VanderBeek, Jason Hughes, and Ricky Thornton Jr.

On Friday night the USMTS followers made the trip to Rapid Speedway (Rock Rapids, Iowa) for another $3,000-to-win A-Main. Gaining two spots in his heat, Rodney recorded a 3rd-place finish, which earned him the pole-position for the main event. Hanging on to a podium spot, Sanders landed a 3rd-place finish behind Cade Dillard and Ricky Thornton Jr. with Jesse Sobbing and Stormy Scott trailing them across the finish line.

Park Jefferson Speedway (Jefferson, South Dakota) was the next stop for The Hunt for the Casey's Cup on Saturday, and it would prove to be a great night for Sanders. Drawing 31 Open Wheel Modifieds, Sanders placed 3rd in his heat, giving him the 12th-starting spot for the feature. Storming to his 11th win of the season, Rodney reeled in the leader by lap 29 and went on to pick up his second win during The Hunt for the Casey's Cup. Pocketing a $3,000 payday, Jesse Sobbing, Jason Hughes, Ricky Thornton Jr., and Stormy Scott completed the Top 5 in the 37-lapper.

Closing out the four-day swing with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS), Rodney traveled to Casino Speedway (Watertown, South Dakota) for the 12th stop of The Hunt for the Casey’s Cup. Passing two cars in his heat, Sanders posted a 4th-place finish but transferred into the B-Main. Landing a runner-up finish in the B-Main behind Ricky Thornton Jr., Rodney earned the 16th-starting position for the $3,000-to-win A-Main. Advancing through the field ten positons in the finale, Rodney Sanders posted a 6th-place finish.

The upcoming week is go time for Rodney in his pursuit of the USMTS championship. Four races are slated over the course of four days. Dylan Ames Surges to Top 5 at the Mag; World 100 Next

Harvest, Alabama (08/30/16) – Dylan Ames overcame bad luck early in the night to power his Ames Land & Cattle Company #77 Capital Race Car/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model to a Top 5 finish at Magnolia Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

Running with the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS), Dylan Ames made the trip Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) on Saturday night. In a field of 36 Super Late Models, Dylan’s night started off on a sour note as he lost first gear on the transmission during hot laps. After qualifying 9th fastest in his group in time trials Ames advanced to a 3rd-place finish in his heat race. The team had a minute to catch their breath after the heat race and used the opportunity to install a new transmission.

Earning the 14th-starting spot for the $2,500-to-win A-Main via his performance in preliminary action, Ames charged through the field ten spots to land a 4th-place finish in the 50 lapper behind Eric Cooley, Dane Dacus, and Jimmy Cliburn with Jason Hiett coming in 5th.

“We definitely had some curveballs thrown at us early in the night, but my team never batted an eye, and we recovered to have a great finish,” said Ames. “That gives me some confidence heading to Eldora Speedway for the World 100. I’ve always wanted to go there. I’ve only seen the place on videos, so I’m really excited to go there and race.”

Ames will not race anywhere over the course of the Labor Day weekend as he and the team focus on preparing for the 46th annual World 100 at Eldora Speedway. The crown jewel event is scheduled for September 8-10. Action opens on Thursday with twin $10,000-to-win features. Friday will again see twin $10,000-to-win events contested. The weekend draws to a close with the granddaddy of all Dirt Late Model events, the World 100 finale, which posts a $49,000 top prize.
