Hanks Pockets Pair of ASCS Red River Region Top Fives to Maintain Points Lead

Inside Line Promotions - LAWTON, Okla. (May 24, 2016) - Brandon Hanks continued to build his lead in the ASCS Red River Region championship standings thanks to a pair of top-five finishes in Oklahoma last weekend.

Hanks holds a 173-point advantage in the standings as he has earned five top fives with the region.

"It was a good weekend overall," he said. "I really think Friday at Creek County Speedway we had something for Blake (Hahn). We just started too far back."

Hanks, who opened the night by finishing fourth in a heat race, lined up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

"Restarts were the biggest thing," he said. "I was going pretty good until I got to fifth or sixth and then it got tough to pass. But leaving with no damage and a podium finish is a great night."

Hanks charged from 12th to the third-place result.

The team took that momentum into Saturday's event at Lawton Speedway, where Hanks drew a high number during the pill draw to start the night at the back of a heat race.

"Wayne Johnson opened the door going through the field and I followed him through," he said. "He was making my job easier. I finished fourth and that put us in the redraw."

Unfortunately, Hanks pulled the highest number - eight - during the random redraw, which lined him up on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

"I had a really good car and that was a really fun race," he said. "I hate we weren't in the top three fighting for the lead at the end. When we got to lapped traffic you could have thrown a blanket over the top six or seven cars. That was one of the more exciting races I've been a part of all year long."

Hanks ended with a fifth-place finish, which gives him eight top fives this season. That is only one away from matching his career-best total in a season.

Hanks said he's unsure whether he will race this weekend.

"The focus this week is farming, but if there's a chance to race we will," he said.
