Aaron Ridley dominates Boyd’s Speedway Southern Regional Racing Series event
By Chris Tilley
RINGGOLD, GA (August 3, 2012)—Aaron Ridley of Chatsworth, GA scored his third career Southern Regional Racing Series event win in dominating fashion on Friday Night August 3rd at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA taking $3,000 for his efforts.
The two time NASRA champ Ridley came to victory leading all 40 circuits while driving the Tru-Temp Heating and Air, Carly’s Salon, American Race Tires, Base Fuels, Shorty’s Shock Service sponsored Race Engine Design powered Revelution Race Car.
Fast qualifier and polesitter Ray Cook and Ridley brought the field of 24 to life for the start with Ridley jumping to a commanding lead off the back-chute and leading lap one with Cook in tow. On the 11th lap things got interesting as the two start to work through lapped traffic and Cook gets up beside Ridley for the lead twice during this lap but Ridley held the momentum and by the 13th lap Ridley makes an open door through the right rear quarter panel of Randy Todd to keep his lead position on the front-chute over Cook putting space between the two as they worked heavy lapped traffic.
The first of four yellow flags would wave on lap 15 as Skip Arp slowed in turn two. The next yellow would wave on lap 19 as Randy Todd and Josh Henry collected and came to rest at the top of turn two. The third yellow would wave on lap 31 for debris on the speedway and fluid from a car that retired a few laps before. The final yellow would wave on the 32nd lap as Jay Scott and Brett Holmes, the 15-year-old who was making his first Super Late Model outing, collected eachother in turn four.
Ridley continued to lead the event and was never challenged heavily for the lead and went on to the $3,000 payday over Cook, sixth starting Jake Knowles third, Jason Welshan in a Tim Kyle prepared GRT was fourth and Todd Morrow was fifth.
The Volunteer Speedway event scheduled for Saturday August 4th was cancelled due to heavy rains and the next series events are a pair of $3,000 races at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN and Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN on August 10 and 11 respectively.
