Randy Weaver Extends Winning Streak with Spring Nationals Victory at Cleveland

By Chris Tilley, Series P.R. Coordinator

CLEVELAND, TN (May 1, 2015)—Randy Weaver scored his second-career Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series victory and extended his win streak to seven victories on the season with his $4,000 payday at Cleveland Speedway Friday Night.

Weaver took the lead on lap-12 from polesitter Derek Ellis and never looked back in the caution-free 40-lapper. Weaver crossed the stripe at the end of the feature ahead of Ellis, Dale McDowell, Mack McCarter and Chris Madden.

Weaver was all smiles again in victory lane for the seventh time this season. “I can’t thank my sponsors and crew enough, I want to thank The Lord, everything is for him, all of this, this year is in the memory of my dad, man I wish he could be here to see this.”

Weaver remarked about this year’s remarkable season. “It’s already a big one to remember, can’t say enough about Cornett power, this Ford motor runs really good, you know, Ohlins shocks, just everybody Mission Transport, Save-More, Chip and Rusty Stone, they’re not here tonight, it’s just a good group of people, man we’re having fun, it’s really great to see this crowd, I love racing here at Cleveland and hopefully we can be back,” stated Weaver.

Dash winner and polesitter Derek Ellis and Stacy Boles brought the field of 24 to life for the start of the 40-lapper with Ellis going to the early lead. By the second lap, fourth starting Weaver had already worked his way into the runner up spot.

As the field worked through lapped traffic on lap 11, Weaver would make the pass to the outside of Ellis to grab the lead as Ellis got tucked in behind lapped cars. Ellis would hold the second spot and sixth place starter Dale McDowell would challenge for the runner up spot on lap 25 and again on lap 30. McDowell couldn’t ever make the pass for the second spot and settled for third in the final rundown.

Weaver drove the Outlaw Racing Southeast, A.F. Stone Professional Medical Services, Stone Land Clearing, Mission Transport, Bailey Company and VP Racing Fuels sponsored Cornett Racing Engines powered Longhorn Chassis to the victory.

The Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series will return to action on Saturday Night May 2nd the series will roll into Gary Hall’s Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tenn. for a 50-lap $6,000-to-win event.
