Spring Nationals Series Opens Season in Kentucky during Easter Weekend Swing
Trips to 201, Ponderosa and Florence will be worth over $55,000 in three days

BRASSTOWN, NC (March 26, 2015)—The Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series presented by Schaeffer’s Oil will open the 2015 season by making the northern trek into the Bluegrass State of Kentucky for three huge nights of dirt late model action at 201, Ponderosa and Florence Speedways on Thursday through Saturday April 2, 3 and 4.

At 201 Speedway in Sitka, Ky., it will be the third-ever series visit on Thursday Night April 2nd  paying $4,000 to win and $400 to start the 40-lap Second Annual Johnny Salyer Memorial main event and Round # 1 of the eleven-race mini tour. Eddie Carrier Jr. of Salt Rock, WV claimed the caution-free thrilling event win during the series visit in 2013 while Brandon Kinzer of Allen, Ky. scored his first-career series victory in 2014. The Open Wheel Modifieds and Bombers will be the supporting divisions that night. The Gates will open at 3:00 pm with driver’s meeting at 6:30 pm then Hot Laps will follow shortly after. Adult General Admission is $20.00 and Pit Passes are $35.00. Jarrod Breeding, a racer and native of Isom, Ky. purchased the track less than three years ago and has revived the 3/8th’s mile track in 2013 and the track will open for their 32nd season of competition when the Spring Nationals come to town on April 2nd. The race is being run in memory of long-time track employee and track prep specialist Johnny Salyer who spent over the last 20 years of his life working at the track. Salyer passed away Christmas Day 2013 of Cancer.

Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, Ky. will host Round # 2 of the Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals on Friday Night April 3rd paying $4,000 to win and $400 to start for the 3rd Annual Spring Showdown. The Open Wheel Modifieds ($1,000 to win), Crate Late Models ($1,000-to-win) and the KDRA Super Stocks ($1,000-to-win) will all be on the racing card for the evening’s events at the Jerry Denson-promoted oval. The Pit Gates and Grandstand Gates will swing open at 4:00 pm, the Driver’s Meeting is set for 7:00 pm and Hot Laps will begin shortly after. Adult General Admission is $20.00 and Pit Passes are $40.00. Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn. is the defending Spring Nationals Series winner at Ponderosa Speedway.

The King Family owned Florence Speedway in Union, Ky. will host Round # 3 of the Spring Nationals Series during the 39th annual Spring 50 race paying $5,000 to win and $450 to start on Saturday Night April 4th. The will mark the second-ever visit to the track located in Northern Kentucky. Darrell Lanigan of Union, Ky. won the 2014 Spring Nationals-sanctioned Spring 50 in 2014 in thrilling fashion over fellow Club 29 Race Car competitor Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn. The Open Wheel Modifieds, Crate Late Models and Pure Stocks will also be on the racing card that night. The Pit Gates will open at 4:00 pm with the Main & back gates swinging open at 5:30 pm and Hot Laps are slated for 6:00 pm on April 4th. Adult General Admission is $22.00 while Pit Passes are $35.00.

Each night’s events will feature a complete show of Practice, Time Trials, Last Chance Heat Races and the main event. The entry fee is $100 at all series events plus transponder rental that will be used to time and score the cars (per series rules). The tire rule for each event will be as follows: Hoosier- 1300 (LO1), 1350 (LO3), 1600 (LO6), LM 40 (both front and rear); American Racer- 44, 48, 56 (both front and rear). Tires will also be checked for soaking and by durometer for hardness before each car goes on the track for qualifying or any racing action. The car and driver weight rules for this event will be as follows: 2350 lbs. for an Open Motor, 2300 lbs. for a Steel Block/Aluminum Head - Spec Motor Only (8" spoiler allowed, 12" sides), 2250 lbs. for a CT525 Motor (8" spoiler allowed) and 2250 lbs. for an all Steel Motor or Crate Motor (8" spoiler allowed, 12" sides). There will be a pound per lap burnoff plus 5 lbs. in B-Mains and in the Feature. The use of a Hans device receives a 30 lb. weight break and the use of working Fire Extinguisher receives a 20 lb. weight break.

At each Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals, Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals and Southern Nationals Bonus Series Series event in 2015, the highest finishing CT525 engine in the main event will receive a $200 bonus and the highest finishing Steel Head/SPEC engine will also receive a $200 bonus.

The track is located ten minutes from Paintsville, KY to Highway 23 North then Highway 201 which runs you into Speedway. Track is located 1 ½ hours East of Hazard, KY and four hours Northeast from Knoxville, TN.

Track is located roughly three hours West of Sitka, KY after Thursday’s event. Track is located less than an hour South of Lexington, KY and around 2 ½ hours North of Knoxville, TN.
