BRASSTOWN, N.C. – September 30, 2016 – Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga. won his second Southern Nationals Bonus Series victory of the season on Friday Night at Tri-County Race Track during the 13th Annual Tarheel 50. Davenport and eventual runner-up Brandon Overton put on a driving clinic during several laps of the main event.

Five caution flags slowed the 53-lap main event. The first yellow came out on the opening lap as Robby Moses slowed in turn four. The field was then re-aligned and sent off again for the start when a nine-car pileup on the backstretch again brought out the yellow flag for the second time. The third yellow flag would wave on lap six as front-runners Mike Marlar and Casey Roberts would both spin together in turn one. Marlar went pitside with damage and Roberts changed a tire and regained the field from the back. On lap nine, George Mashburn spun with a left front tire blown in turn four to bring out the fourth yellow while Daniel Wilson spun his entry on lap 48 in turn two to bring out the final caution of the race.

The next Southern Nationals Bonus Series event will be on Friday and Saturday October 7 and 8 at Crossville (Tenn.) Speedway paying $10,000-to-win for the Tennessee State Championship race.

Eric Wells Wins Thrilling Iron-Man Mountain Championship Finale at 201 Speedway

SITKA, Ky. (October 1, 2016)—Eric Wells of Hazard, Ky. put an exclamation point on the final Iron-Man Mountain Championship race at 201 Speedway Saturday Night as he captured the $3,000 top prize during the Halloween Thriller race.

Wells became the sixth different winner in the eighth and final event of the season while driving the Penske Racing Shocks, Allstar Performance, Schaeffer’s Oil and Convenient Lube-sponsored Cornett Racing Engine-powered Longhorn Chassis. This was Wells’ first win since his April 2013 World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series victory at the Duck River Raceway Park in Tennessee.

Four cautions flags slowed the feature event. The first yellow came on lap six as Josh Hall came to a stop in turn two. The second yellow would come out on the restart as Shannon Thornsberry and Jackie Boggs would get together and both have to tag the tail of the field per series rules of stopping on the race track. The next yellow flag would be on lap 17 as James Williamson slowed in turn two and the final yellow flag came on the restart of lap 17 as Paul Davis broke a driveshaft on the frontchute.

Tommy Bailey of Corbin, Ky. was honored as the champion of the 2016 Iron-Man Mountain Championship tour. He was awarded championship prize money along with various products from Schaeffer’s Racing Oil. Steve Stollings of Hazard, Ky. was awarded championship prize money for his runner-up in the point standings as well as a certificate towards the purchase of a new Revelution Race Car as well as various products from Schaeffer’s Racing Oil. Jackie Boggs was awarded products from Schaeffer’s Racing Oil for his third place finish in the final position in the points after attending just over 65 percent of the races scheduled.

Series officials would like to thank all of the race tracks, promoters and their staff along with all of the sponsors and supporters and most of all the race fans for their continued support of making the inaugural season of the Iron-Man Mountain Championship a very successful one. Plans are in the works for putting together a schedule for the drivers and fans for 2017 and announcements will be made in the future regarding that information. The yearly Iron-Man Classic race will be held in July 2017 and for the next two years after that at the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. More details will be announced in the near future. The track hosted the Iron-Man Classic in 2014 when Chris Madden took the victory.
