Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Program at Rome Speedway Postponed by Rain

(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA)  For the second consecutive evening, Mother Nature has taken the win in a Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series event.  A stellar field of 31 competitors were on the grounds tonight at the historic Rome Speedway in Rome, Georgia when heavy rain showers hit the facility during the middle of qualifying.  Jason Croft, Jonathan Davenport, Shane Clanton, and Jason Hiett had the top four fastest times of those that had qualified when the inclement weather struck.

The $5,300 to win program at Rome has been rescheduled for next Sunday, July 28, but the event will not carry any points.  The 2013 version of the Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series will still crown a Champion on Saturday, July 27 at the bad-fast Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, Tennessee.  Series and track officials have deemed that the return trip to Rome will start from scratch and any new entries will be welcome.  Additional information on the rain-out policy at Rome Speedway can be accessed online at www.raceromespeedway.com.

Drivers entered tonight at Rome:  Shane Clanton, Jason Wilson, Mike Bruner, Jonathan Davenport, Jason Croft, Austin Smith, Tony Knowles, Dillon Wood, Jake Knowles, Chuck Page, Clint Smith, William Thomas, Vic Hill, Eric Jacobsen, Billy Ogle, Jr., Chip Brindle, Jason Hiett, Dennis Franklin, Donald McIntosh, Ivedent Lloyd, Jr., Brian Nuttall, Brian Reese, Michael Page, Scott Hall, Jody Knowles, Doug Stevens, Chris Madden, Frank Ingram, Stacy Boles, Casey Roberts, Gary McPherson.

Next up for the barnstorming Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals tour will be a trip to the North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Georgia on Tuesday night, July 23 for a $3,500 to win showdown.  Randy Weaver (2011) and William Thomas (2012) both captured the checkered flag at NGS in the series only two previous visits.  Learn more about the 1/3-mile oval by clicking on www.northgaspeedway.net.
