FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Southern Nationals Series Makes Several Schedule Additions for 2016 Season By Chris Tilley, Series P.R. Coordinator BRASSTOWN, NC (February 4, 2016)—Officials with the Southern Nationals Series have made several adjustments to the 2016 schedule including added dates and two changes. The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series (July 16-July 30) will see two changes. Since Modoc (SC) Raceway announced they will not open for the upcoming season, the Thursday July 21st date will be moved to Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, N.C. paying $3,500-to-win. The Tri-County date that was scheduled for Thursday July 28th will be replaced by the addition of Crossville (Tenn.) Raceway. The Crossville addition pays $3,500-to-win. The last time the series visited Crossville Raceway was July 21, 2009 when Chris Madden claimed the $3,500 top prize over Tommy Kerr, Jonathan Davenport, Randy Weaver and Dennis Franklin. The Southern Nationals Bonus Series has added four races to complete the schedule. The series will visit Boyd’s Speedway for two visits. The 21st Annual Shamrock pays $4,000-to-win on March 19th and the 28th Annual Gobbler pays $10,000-to-win. The long-time races move from Cleveland Speedway to Boyd’s Speedway after Cleveland announced that they’re closing for this season. Last year’s Southern Nationals Bonus Series-sanctioned Shamrock race was rained out and the Gobbler race was won by Chris Madden. The Southern Nationals Bonus Series has also announced a date for Crossville (Tenn.) Raceway that will be held on Friday Night May 20th paying $5,000-to-win. Another added event on the schedule will be the 4th Annual Deep Fried 75 at the Duck River Raceway Park in Lewisburg, Tenn. paying $13,000-to-win. The Bonus Series sanctioned the event in 2014 when Riley Hickman of Cleveland, Tenn. took the $11,000 payday. Frank Heckenast Jr. of Frankfort, Ill. Is the defending winner of the Deep Fried 75. One TBA date in Tennessee for October 7 & 8 on the Bonus Series will be filled soon and pay $10,000-to-win. In other Bonus Series news, promoter Ray Cook has announced that the Bonus Series champion will receive $5,053 for 2016. The points funds for all three tours will be identical for the upcoming season and the overall champion will receive an additional $5,053. Purses and point funds available for 2016 will be in excess of $900,000. The Southern Nationals Bonus Series will open up in just a few short weeks at the 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tenn. for the Inaugural Frostbuster 50 paying $7,151-to-win. The Old Man’s Garage Spring Nationals Series will open the season on March 11/12 at the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. for the 3rd Annual Tennessee Tipoff Classic paying $15,000-to-win.
